T400 - Provide a solution for drivers please!

2008-09-03, 9:03 AM

Hi,

just received my brand new T400 (2765) few days ago. First action after initial boot was to "kick" the preinstalled os (I hate manufacturer preinstalls) for a quick linux install. Well, graphics and wlan didn´t work out of the box - that was what I expected for a quick test. Okay, next I tried a shiny Vista Business SP1 and downloaded the ThinkVantage System Update Tool (after first downloading the Intel Gigabit LAN driver from the Lenovo website). This famous Update tool always provided me with hassle free driver installs in my "Thinkpad past" (X21,R40,R51,R61) - but now just fails with Package Index Server Error?!

As far as I have learned from these forums this is a well known problem for T400 users :-( But that Lenovo also does not provide working video drivers at their download page is very bad. The provided Intel driver doesnt work for me under Vista. German Lenovo telephone support said that the correct drivers arent yet available... I should "wait". Well, paying around thousand Euros for a new notebook which is quite useless without accelerated graphic is really unacceptable.

Besides the provided wlan drivers seem to be for "Atheros" chipsets and dont work for me as as far as I know the device makes use of Intel wifi? This is not really the quality of support I was used to. Lenovo:

  • please make ThinkVantage System Update work again!
  • please provide driver for the integraded and discrete ATI graphic!
  • please update download area to display correct drivers!
  • Dont release a product you cant support!

I am thinking of returning the device because of lack of some features and I don´t know whether I will recommend Thinkpads to our customers again. Depends on how elegant these issues will be fixed...

Daniel

System Updater is working now, but Ati drivers I don´t know, just take a look through Updater.

Hello dasdy78!

For my model R60 and for some T61´s the updater is working now. Perhaps they have already problems to

get the right drivers for the new models like T400/T500.

See also Thinkpad-forum.de

kind regards

About system update, it doesn't work in my system as well..... I think I agree that lenovo support is quite bad, at least for T400.

Anyway, for those doing clean install, I found this neat guide before I did my clean install, saved me a lot of trouble:

Any updates on T400 issues? - please keep us informed

2008-09-04, 8:25 AM

Having no compatible drivers drivers for a top-class product is worse - keeping customers uninformed and left in confusion is in addition even worse. I would appreciate open communication from Lenovo regarding the driver issues. I want to make full use of my 1300 EURO notebook now

Thanks.

Unable to download T400 (ATI) video driver.

2008-09-04, 9:52 AM

Hello,

I have recently tried to do a clean install of Windows vista on my new T400.  When I went to the website to download the drivers, I was sad to see that I am getting a 404 error with the ATI video driver.  I have tried both FPT and HTTP.

I'd really like to get this laptop back up and running.

Thanks in advanced!

T400 Network Controller (Wireless) PCI Serial Port and Unknown device drivers ?

2008-09-04, 10:08 AM

Hi everyone,

My name is Julian, and I'm an IT Technician in EcoleHotelière de Lausanne. I'm in charge of making systems images (.wim) for allthe school computers.

We recently purchased a Lenovo T400 laptop(type:6475-R2G ; serial : L3xxxxx).

First thing I did was to reorganize the partitions : use thefirst as the recovery one, then fomat the second and third ones to make a"system" and a "data" one. Then, I installed WindowsVista Enterprise.

I'm now looking for all the systemdrivers. If I did find a lot of them, I still cannot find the following ones :

           Network (wireless) controller.

           PCI Serial Port

Unknown Device (seems to be the Audiodevice, although that I already did installed the Audio driver downloaded on Lenovo website)

I tried the wireless driver available on Lenovo website, butI'm still not able to activate the wireless device. In the Device Manager, it stillindicates me that no driver is installed.

I also tried to use the System Update tool, which was workingpretty fine. After a couple of tries, I finally managed to make it work, butthen it wouldn't propose me any drivers.

Does anybody have an idea ?

Thanks by advance.
