Error starting Recovery creation DVD's

2010-06-25, 2:45 AM

When starting the Factory Recovery Disks program, I get the Create Recovery Media window.  After checking and clicking that I want to continue, I'm able to click OK to create recovery medium for both Boot Media and Data Media.  At this point, an error window comes up that the file S:\Recovery\WindowsRE\winRE.wim required by this program cannot be found.

I've have previously created the Rescue & Recovery boot disc to connect to external HDD or network R&R backup files, but have never created the 3-DVD Factory Disks.

Anyone run into this before?

Thanks...

you need to call Lenovo and ask them send you a set of these discs.

Thx lead_org...

I was hesitant to try and procure a recovery disc set given some of the experiences others have faced when told they would have to pay for them.  However, the gentleman from Lenovo Technical Services out of Atlanta, GA was very professional and, after describing the symptoms to him, indicated that they were sending out the disc set at no charge.

Follow-up... I was reviewing the contents of the Q:\ and S:\ partitions and noticed that they were no longer shown in Windows Explorer!  Going into Computer Management > Disc Management, I see the two partitions are still there; however, the drive letters are missing!

I decided to assigned drive letter (S) to the SYSTEM_DRV (1.17GB) and (Q) to Lenovo_Recovery (9.77GB) and now both partitions show up in Explorer.

Unfortunately, there is only 78.5MB of space occupied in the Q: partition (all hidden sys files).  Looks like the initial crash wiped out most of Q: drive.  The S: SYSTEM_DRV is occupied by 467MB of files and appears intact, I guess.

Question now is, upon receiving the DVD Media discs from Lenovo, should I restore the unit back to factory new condition and then overwrite all of the C: drive files from R&R?
