Factory Burning / DVD Software

2011-03-03, 16:48 PM

Is there a way to reinstall the factory included burning / DVD software back on an image with the factory recovery disks without doing an entire factory recovery?

YAMYFX4DUDE, welcome to the forum,

if you are using the factory preinstalled image you will find the package in c:\SWTOOLS\Apps folder. Depending on which system you have the folder containing the package may have a different name, but what I think you are looking for is the MMCFTO; MultiMedia Centre For Think Offerings.

I just realized I totally failed at my username. Misspelled and all caps. Can I fix that?

But thanks AndyP, actually they sysprep'd an xp image without the dvd / burning software and instead of having to rebuild the sysprep image i was wondering if there was a way to quick install the media software?

Unfortunately you need that folder, the downloads usually only function as updates; it has to be there to work. Got a system with a preinstalled image?

Re. name - I can help, PM on it's way.

You can extract the system restore image to a directory on your hard drive with imagex, it's part of the MS AIK toolkit. The image should be cdrive.wim located on the Q drive, you will need to have windows explorer show hidden files in order to find this.

7-zip can unpack WIMs too, so you don't need to download the entire WAIK.
