Let's first start by making sure you have installed the correct version of the fingerprint software:

64bit Installer: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73674

32bit Installer: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73673

After confirming that you do have the correct software installed if the fingerprint reader still does not work check to make sure that it is enabled within the BIOS.

Let me know what happens, so I can continue to assist you.

I have got the same problem. After a year without any problems with it, the fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working.

The sensor is enabled in the bios.

It is workings sometimes after a reset is preformed in the bios.

Have a Thinkpad T500 2082-8WG.

[Edit]

I tried to fix it with a new fresh install of windows 7 professional but that did not fix the problem.

Re: Fingerprint problem with Win7

Hi, I have a T500 running W7, was working fine since September to March.  Now today I am getting the same fingerprint issues.  "Cannot connect to sensor"  "USB device not installed correctly" and so on.  Fingerprint reader fails on Cold Boot.  ThinKVantage Security says "cannot communicate with sensor".

Tried installing latest fingerprint software yet did not fix.

Any suggestions?  How to get fingerprint working?   Seems to be a hardware issue that the system iso longer recognising the sensor...

Thanks

Thanks Colonel.  Worth your weight in sugared almonds.  Reset the fingerprint reader in BIOS.  Logged on and re-enrolled fingerprints (using Thinkvantage Client Security Fingerprint software).  Tried to use fingerprint reader for browser site yet said there were no fingerprints enrolled.

Shutdowdn/restart, fingerprints completed enrolment and then all ok.

Problem solved.

Now left wondering why the fingerprint reader stopped working...

Im having exactly same issues.

Im 100% sure that this is the fingerprint issue.

After I remove the battery and reset fingerprint data in Win 7 appears box that usb device isnt working properly etc. I noticed that in device manager fingerprint reader dissapeared too.

Re: Fingerprint problem with Win7

When I reboot my PC and go to BIOS the finderprint readr menu dissapeared in security section. When I disconnect AC power cord and wait for few minutes and then get into BIOS there is finally fingerprint reader and I can reset its data.

So I did it but after I login into windows there is message box that one of the usb devices isnt working properly. Its the fingerprint reader for sure.

Im really tired of this, I will reinstall windows and Install only selected updates but this is really annoying ... Im sure that FP reader is okay, it worked before so why should it break down now ? Im absolutely sure that this is software issue.

I never installed any drivers by Windows Update. After I reinstall system from factory discs I run TVSU and install first Windows updates then drivers. On some windows updates TVSU says that the fix wasnt installed and on some it wasnt installed but when I go to Windows Update and check at history it says all updates which I selected on TVSU are installed corectly.

This is really annoying Im starting to hate Win 7 now and Lenovo driver support ... There is still no new release of video drivers and I cant get Win 7 SP1 ...

I think these are my last true thinkpads. I cant get on stupid 16:9 ratio or dumb ejecting method of dvd drive or hdd caddy - u have to flip down whole laptop ... I dont like design of new X220 Tablet or whatever its called I also hate big esc and del keys ...

I cant work properly with my Thinkpads .... when I turn them off and dont use them for 3 or 4 days something gets screwed again (like with the fingerprint reader at T500).

Would love to switch back to XP Pro but I got ssd's and Im not keen on using C2D machine with system that wouldnt use all its power.

My x61s worked great and I didnt have ANY software issues at all for 4 years !

Thinkpads used to be great machines but now software support is very poor. Thinkpads arent now very practical with few status leds  ... but who cares there at Lenovo about longtime thinkpad users ? Make it cheaper and sell them as many as you can. You will be #1 manufacturer in the world but who will call those laptops real thinkpads ?
