How can I test the batteries?

2018-01-16, 12:23 PM

How can I test the batteries in my T450? I think there was once a piece of Lenono software that told about the state of batteries. I do not have it. Is it possible to change the internal battery yourself?

Hey Knagsted, you can try the following software to diagnose the state of your battery.

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds102688

If you want to monitor the your system and have more robust diagnostics, I'd also recommend Lenovo Solution Center.

Hope this helps!

You simply remove the bottom cover.  The battery is right there - held in by 3 screws

Hi Peter,

Yes, you can install Lenovo Power Manager software that will show some battery information. One important parameter to check battery health is FCC (Fully Charger Capacity) which will tell you the actual capacity of your battery. If your battery is old and not calibrated FCC cannot be trusted. You need to perform a calibration cycle (Fully Charged - Fully Discharged then Fully Charged). After this calibration process, you can check FCC.

Unfortunately, you cannot check cells for reading voltages, internal resistance or track the voltages under load.

There are some tools on the market that can do it (checking deeply a laptop battery), like NLBA1: https://www.direct-charging.com/products/professional-laptop-battery-analyzer-nlba1

Have I answered your question? If not, please tell me and I come back. In my free time I repair laptop batteries.

Thank you.
