Integrated Camera displays the first frame captured, but then freezes

2018-05-03, 23:09 PM

Hey, I have a problem with my integrated camera (webcam) of my Thinkpad T470: when I first activate the webcam for eaxmple using Skype it displays the first frame captured, but then freezes/pauses and doesn't display subsequent frames. The camera's green LED blinks once and then stay off. I guess this happened after I updated the driver from 3.5.7.6101 (Driver date 11/6/2017) to 5.0.18.10 (Driver date 2/14/2018). I rolled back the driver, it didn't help! I tried to restore the computer to previous dates, it gave me error saying seems my AntiVirus is ON and I need to disable it temporary, I did it, still the same error. Trying to avoid going through factory reset process if possible.
Any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried uninstalling from device manager and installing the driver that can be downloaded from the Lenovo Drivers & Software page? I had an issue with the fingerprint reader recently and the driver rollback didn't resolve it. It was resolved with the uninstall and install of the driver. I know it's a different device, but maybe the same process would fix your issue.

Great tip! I did exactly what you said and it worked. First I uninstalled it and without restarting the laptop (since I didn't want Windows to automatically install the latest version that I had issue with) I went to this link:
https://pcsupport.lenovo.com

and downloaded the original version I used to have and there you go, all good now!

Thank you so much. You saved me lots of time by not going through resetting my laptop.

This helped me too

Re: Integrated Camera displays the first frame captured, but then freezes

I have similar problem, but in this case the green LED and the image works for 1 second, then shuts down for 2-3 seconds, then back on for 1, etc.

My first guess was driver, but there were no newer versions.

To run updates, I logged in as an admin user, and when I tested the webcam from this user, it worked just fine.

I then logged in as another user, and it worked fine there as well.

It seem to be related to the user profile, but everything else works.

Is there and easier fix to this, than resetting the user profile?

Exactly the same issue here. Camera starts for 1 second, then freezes, starts again then freezes.

Have updated, reinstalled drivers for cameras etc but cannot seem to resolve.

Any suggestions welcome.

I think something has gone bad with the driver if all 4 people report same behaviour (I have same issure on/off every 3 seconds) it can't be hardware. Hope Lenovo fixes this soon!

I'm having the same problem. Definitely seems to be widespread and not a hardware issue. I also have trouble when I plug in my Logitech USB webcam, although occasionally I can get that to work.
