Intel P9500 - Will this be available soon?

2008-08-18, 3:10 AM

The Intel P9500 processor is a 25 watt version of the  35 watt T9400 and is offered by Intel at $32 more than the T9400 in quantities of  1000.  It is available at newegg.com and other suppliers.   I configured a Lenovo T400 system with everyting I want, except for the P9500, which is not an option.  The P9500 is also conspicuous by its absence in notebook offerings by HP, Sony, Toshiba, and Dell.  Does anybody know why?

More importantly, for me, will it soon be offered in the Lenovo T400?.  I would guess it would add about $50 to a system configured with a P9500 rather than a T9400 and I am certainly willing to pay for a 10 watt power savings.

I wanted the same CPU. It's in their marketing PDF but not in the tabook so I assume it's just a few weeks off.  I ordered a P8600 instead but even with that, it says it won't ship till 9/5. Hopefully the 9500's are available before then and I have the chance to switch, but if not, it's enough extra money that I'll just put the money towards a future laptop.

I chatted with a sales rep and he said they won't come in the Thinkpads. I think they are available in the Dell E6500, which looks pretty much like a Thinkpad clone and has similar features (magnesium frame, free-fall sensor etc.).

P.S.: Lenovo people: you can understand this as a hint that you will loose me (and others) as customers if you don't bring the P9500. Look at the Dell specs what they have.

Re: Intel P9500 - Will this be available soon?

The Lenovo sales rep that I talked to a couple of days ago thought that the P9500 would eventually be an option in the T400 that I was trying to configure.  Lenovo mention the P9500 in their T400/500 data sheet along with the other 4 processors.

I sent an email to Intel asking if there was a delay in shipping the P9500.  Intel answered that it was now shipping the P9500 to OEMs.

Sony offers the P9500 in thier Viao Z series: VGN-Z570N/B 13.1" for $2,349.99

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665411982   This also has the hybrid graphics and DDR3 memory.

The Dell E6500 has a 15 inch display, does not have DDR3, and is not as configurable as the Lenovo T400 and T500.

It would be nice if a Lenovo moderator on this Forum could get us an authoritative answer as to when, if ever, they will offer the P9500 in their Intel Centrino 2 branded machines.

Actually the Dells are roughly as configurable as the Lenovo. Yes, they have only DDR2, and no WSXGA, but have the (pretty affordable) 250GB 7200rpm HD option that I really like...

That looks great. However, how could you order it?

I get on the lenovo shop website still no P9500 option:

i tried configuring teh same system within an hour of ordering the system and i cudn find the P9500. From my conversation with a sales rep, i understood that the P9500 is in limited stock. I guess u will have to just keep trying if u really want it.

All the best.

Toxicprisin, Please let us know when it arrives.  I went through something like this with a quality 22 inch flatpanel for a ThinkCentre that came and went in the options list.  I ordered it, but it kept being dealyed.  After about 4 months, I cancelled the order.  I hope this is not the case with the P9500.
