Is t431s msata SATA 2 or 3?

2013-04-23, 9:48 AM

Since we don't have the ultrabay any longer here it theoretically could use 3? See subject.

Thanks, Jan

Sorry for this late reply as I just got this information.  T431s M.2 port is SATA-3  (6Gbps)

1. T431s does not use mSATA, but M.2 (NGFF, Next Generation Form Factor) which is smaller in size and has a different connector.

2. Since T431s does not include an optical drive (via the UltraBay), I speculate that the second SATA 6Gbit/s ("SATA 3") port is assigned to the M.2.

Like Kaso said, T431s uses M.2 and not mSATA.  Almost every ThinkPad from now on will have M.2 slot, and not any mSATA slot.

As for whether T431s M.2 slot is SATA-2 or SATA-3, I don't know but I'll try to find out from the HW engineers, and post back here later.

Now all we need are M.2 storage devices.  Oh, and the T431s.  :D

Thanks. And i guess because M2 has a smaller form factor, the MSATA disks won't fit in this laptop at all. I guess there is no extra room for MSATA in combination with an MSATA->M2 connector adaptor or something like that... So we have to wait for M2 SSD's for example. I know Micron is about to release one in the 2d quarter.

>> MSATA->M2 connector adaptor

LOL. Morphing a bigger board into a smaller board is no ordinary "adaptor." Not in this world, anyway.

Read it again. I mean enough room to still place the MSATA and an MSATA->M.2 adaptor to fit the connector. I am sure it won't exist ;-).

Read it again. An M.2 has its own physical dimension and connector characteristics. To "adapt" to an M.2 form factor is to conform to its characteristics. (Let's "adapt" a 3.5" HDD to a 1.8" HDD!) Anyway... LOL.
