Is the whole story just a joke?

2017-10-05, 14:36 PM

The whole Retro ThinkPad story has started with four detailed surveys, according this On average each survey has had approximately 13,000 respondents

Now Lenovo came up with limited 5,000 boxes total (625 for Europe) of T470 basic configuration (no WQHD display) with modified keyboard only. Sorry, this looks like a bad joke. I would understand it in case of small garage company or a startup. But Lenovo still reports to be a #1 PC vendor. There is something wrong ...

ThinkPad (1992 - 2012): R51, X31, X220, Tablet 8.

Touch screen and infrared face recognition camera doesn't;t sound like basic T470

Well, if you look at www.panelook.com, you will find that there are ZERO IPS panels in production between 13.4" and 15" in size, with 16:10 aspect ratio.  That's right, ZERO.  There are no 1920x1200 panels.  There are no 2560x1600 panels.  Only crappy MacBook Air 13.3" 1440x900 TN panels.  Yuck.

Therefore, I think Lenovo tried very hard, but they probably need to order 100,000 panels to have a custom run and give their customers a good price on a 16:10 Thinkpad.  I for one am VERY happy that thinkpads are getting BETTER, for the first time in many years ...

It is indeed excellent they created Thinkpad with the better keyboard. When i saw first Thinpads with botched 6 row keyboards i have sworn i will never buy 6 row Lenovo until they fix it, so luckily there is T25.

Bud i am afraid i will need to live on that for next 25 years :(

PS: i would understand making a 6 row keyboard, but i would like to see which genius decided that gaps between Fkeys or around Home/End island is useless.

I don't necessarily believe the posted numbers about the total units made, but as time passes and Lenovo still only offers this model in a handful of locales, that part of the story, at least, does seem like a joke, if not to say a slap in the face of the fans. :smileyfrustrated:

13,000 people might have responded, but how many will actually put down cash?  Have you ever seen Facebook event invites?  There are thousands of people interested, but the venue itself holds a fraction of that.  So yes, lots of flakes, lots of window shoppers, and lots of people that might have just changed their mind or were forced to buy something sooner.  Lenovo would be dumb to multiply 13,000 respndants by 4 surveys and build 52,000 T25s.
