Re: KB4056892 multiple problems on T440s

Well, same problem for me. W541, BIOS/UEFI 2.33, Windows 10 x64, i7-4710MQ...

Lets wait for a corrected MicroCode Update by Intel. :smileyhappy:

I have the same phenomenon, and another one:

Together with the BIOS update came a power management driver update.

Now there are windows log messages

The speed of processor 3 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware.

for all cores.

This error is normal on a labtop. And has been there for years Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10

No it is not. I've had this same laptop for three years and this event never triggered until the updates were installed.

Re: KB4056892 multiple problems on T440s

2018-01-17, 0:16 AM

Here is a summary of where we stand, since this thread is diverging from the unresolved critical issue originally posted.

Issue: On a T440s, KB4056892 with the latest BIOS (2.46) causes a stream of WHEA-Logger errors that report CPU-level parity errors and in some cases system lockups.

Workaround: In message 15 CrypticLottery reports how to disable a subset of the CPU flaw mitigations to prevent errors and crashes.

Status: Lenovo has not included the problematic BIOS 2.46 in the microcode updates that have been withdrawn (see message 18) so it is not known if they are working on it.

01/17: Edited to reflect update to Lenovo bulletin where it now says "Earlier update GJET96WW withdrawn by Intel Target availability 3/31/2018"

Good summary by @ianw01

Just to note the issue also applies to 2.44 which hasn't been pulled and I downgraded to.  The WHEA events continue until @CrypticLottery workaround to registry values is applied

@tonster76: Thanks.

I believe that 2.44 is fine - the issue is that you downgraded from 2.46. Although there is microcode bundled in the BIOS update, whether it is actually used is more complicated than that - according to this post in another board.

Same here. Two STOP ERRORS on my T440 and Windows 10. First IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and second was System Service Exception (ntoskrnl.exe). Before KB4056892/BIOS update this computer has been working for years without any problem

Re: KB4056892 multiple problems on T440s

Interestingly I have two T440s with BIOS 2.46 and KB4056892 installed.

One system experienced a lot of momentary freezing and locking up, but no BSOD.

The other system seems fine.

They both have full Event Viewer logs with WHEA-Logger entries.

Strange that it seems to be a problem on one and not the other.

I've editing the registry on the one that was freezing but let things alone on the other T440s. Very strange.

Both have Windows 10 Pro and Office 16 32bit with 8GB RAM and 256 SSD.

Someone please let us know when this issue is permanently resolved with new BIOS or whatever.

BSOD occurs only under heavy load, when there are many running programs that use the system in different ways (ex. HDD+CPU+GPU intensive). Otherwise only momentary freezing happens.
