Thanks Galfert! I've installed the updated BIOS and I guess I'll know in a few days if it's working

Re: KB4056892 multiple problems on T440s

UPDATE: After running new BIOS 2.47 for 24 hours...

I've been running the latest BIOS 2.47 on my T440s for 24 hours. The system is very responsive and does not lock up, fan noise is normal (mostly quiet now). Windows Event Viewer logs have no WHEA-Logger events to be seen (with Spectre Registry fixes enabled).

No problems to report.

Confirmed, the latest 2.42 (03/07/2018) on x240 solved the problem (thanks god!)

Odd enough, Lenovo support seemed to be unaware and continiosly asked me to re-install the Windows for weeks while I fighted with BSODs. :smileymad:

Re: KB4056892 multiple problems on T440s

Hello, we have tons of T440s and T450s at work and still have issues with meltdown/spectre patches.

With BIOS 2.47 we can confirm that the WHEA-Errors are gone and there are no more BSOD, but when using a bluetooth keyboard and you start typing anything anywhere the whole system freezes for 4-5 seconds and then resumes but do not type anything.

You need to type the same thing again and again until it's not freezing anymore and typing normal.

When disabling the Spectre-Patch everything is working fine.

Greetz!

The-Nickel,

Have you tried to see if the Bluetooth freezing problem is still present with the recent Bluetooth software update 20.20.0 released Feb 2018?

... with the newest BIOS and BT drivers, I manually installed KB4088776, which appears to be a recent cumulative update including KB4056892. No issues yet, and the machine is protected against both Intel bugs now.

In my case KB4088776 is installed as well, but mini-freezes with using a BT-keyboard still occurs. Same on T450S

Re: KB4056892 multiple problems on T440s - registry key values of 1 ?

2018-04-25, 15:22 PM

Galfert & all:

I have a machine for which I do not know the complete history of patches / registry hacks that have been made/installed.

I am about to apply the BIOS update V2.47

Upon inspection I find the keys:

 FeatureSettingsOverride and FeatureSettingsOverrideMask are both set to a value of 1

I've only read about them being set to either 0 or 3 - What does the value of 1 represent?

Is it safe to go ahead and apply V2.47  (Thinkpad T440s currently running V2.46)

Thanks!

Jim

If my post helps a Kudo is appreciated, if I answer your question, please mark it ”Accepted Solution“ and give it a Kudo! ... Some years ago I worked for IBM. Currently I do not work for, nor do I speak for Lenovo or IBM.

Re: KB4056892 multiple problems on T440s - registry key values of 1 ?

Just change them both to 0 after you upgrade to 2.47 BIOS.

Here are the values for 0 through 3 and their purposes

00 = 0 Both CVE-2017-5715 and CVE-2017-5754 enabled
01 = 1 CVE-2017-5754 Enabled Only
10 = 2 CVE-2017-5715 Enabled Only
11 = 3 Both -5754  and -5715 Disabled
