Keyboard differences between ThinkPad and IdeaPads

2015-05-28, 17:14 PM

I used to have a ThinkPad R61 and I know how legendary it's keyboard was. I have not used ThinkPads or IdeaPads for a long time (using Dells in the meantime which my employer provides) since 2010.

I am planning to buy a ThinkPad or IdeaPad - but I am wondering if there are any differences between the current ThinkPad models (i.e. T440p , THINKPAD EDGE E431 etc.) and the IdeaPad models (Z Series, G Series etc.)?

There is a significant price difference between IdeaPads (cheaper) and ThinkPads (pricer), even though the IdeaPads are better in terms of specifications.

My question is  specifically on the keyboard quality - Are the keyboards in ideapads and thinkpads built differently - Is there any difference in key travel times, tactile feedback, sensitivity etc?

Please advise so that I can make the right choice.
