Lenovo T400 freeze

2009-01-08, 22:58 PM

I had this happening several times by now, on Windows XP professional, Ubuntu, and other linux that I have tried too. after roughly 3 hours of usage, in XP it promtps a blue screen error message saying that either a driver or hard drive driver have failed and require me to restart the system. This also happens whenever i wake up the machine from suspend. in ubuntu and SUSE, same thing happen, just no blue screen and just system completely freezes. I'm suspecting this a hardware problem, but do you guys have any ideas? I just got my machine roughly 1 week ago, if it is hardware problem I'll have to get this replaced asap.

I have not tried this in Vista, does anyone seen that happen in Vista too?

Welcome to the forum,

You could try to run memtest86+ to check if there is a problem with your RAM.

Thank you

okay, it happened again and this time i copied down what the blue screen says:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xB9CD4987,  0xBA503B9C, 0xBA503898)

NDIS.sys -Address B9CD4987 base at B9CF000, DateStamp 48025d03

it tells me to check diskspace (plenty), disable any driver or check with manufacturer for driver update (all updated by  ThinkVantage System Update). change video adapter (probably not the problem, happens on both internal Intel or discreet ATI driver). BIOS update, disable BIOS memory option on cashing or shadowing

What does it mean if memtest86+ froze during the first run but passed fine on a subsequent run?

When it froze, I couldn't reboot by hitting ESC or it wouldn't respond to any other commands.

I have been getting a lot of freezes on Vista Home Basic on my T400 machine.  It appears to be very random.

However, whenever I run PC Doctor, it freezes with the message saying "Connecting to ... Engine...."

I forget the full message.  It never returns from this and I can do anything.  The mouse isn't frozen but might as well be since I can't do anything.

Sounds like it is oftern either videocard or Network driver related. If system memory is good and you have ATI graphics, may be a bad memory in the ATI's 256 KB.

Same error codes for me. I'm running Vista and I get the blue screen and the 07E error with the NDIS.SYS when I try and shut down. however, it's totally random. The computer tech at my work has reinstalled the ATI drivers, found some patches on the Lenovo site that were suppoed to help, etc. etc. I've only had this T400 for about two weeks and I'm pretty disappointed. If this keeps up, I'll be going back to Dell, which is what I was trying to get away from.

Most likely some parts of laptop overheat (sympton > a few hours).

You should look under the control panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer->Windows logs->System

The event viewer would document a log of 'events' that occured, and system, especially messages that show 'error' would show wat happened and when.
