Lenovo Vantage intelligent cooling (power management) does not change with windows performance setting

2020-09-09, 9:25 AM

Hello community,

I am changing the windows performance mode; But unfortunately my Lenovo Vantage power management is not changing. Even though I go to full performance in Win 10 Pro:

My Lenovo Power Management always says "intelligent cooling: quiet mode" in every Windows performance mode.

Uninstall & reinstall was already done

Whats wrong?

System is:

AMD 4750 Pro / 32Gb RAM / Win 10 Pro (newest Version)

What model ThinkPad is this about?  EDIT:  never mind my question, I see this is about T14s in one of the screenshots and I know it is AMD processor based on your other information.  Let me check my T14s here and get back to you later.

I was able to reproduce the same problem here.  I confirmed that the power slider is taking effect.  It's just that the Vantage toolbar seems to be unaware of it.  We are investigating.  Sorry for this trouble.

This seems to be a bug in the Lenovo Intelligent Thermal Solution driver version 1.0.1.357 (you can find this in Device Manager -> System Devices).  If you open that device, and click on driver tab, see if you have version 1.0.1.357.  If so, click on the "Roll Back Driver" button to go back to previous version, reboot, then I think this problem will be gone.

This is also true for Lenovo P15 which I just purchased 1 month ago and realized this happening just 2-3 days back.

I called the technical support and they were unable to help.

And they have charged me $69.99  (NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!)

Common issue that all customers needs to know.

The new version of Lenovo Intelligent Thermal Solution driver (1.00.01.359) fixes this issue:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t14s-type-20t0-20t1/downloads/DS502230

You can also get it from System Update in Lenovo Vantage.

I have to disagree with this solution.

This is the driver that i rolled back from in order to fix the problem.

This driver caused the problem on my machine (P15 Gen 1)

I'm having the same problem, basically if you set the Windows mode to performance everything will be fine for a few seconds, however eventually the Lenovo speed indicator icon will disappear and the performance will drop significantly but the Windows power mode slider will still be set to performance. To get back to performance mode you need to change the slider to any other mode (which causes the Lenovo icon to reappear) then go back to performance but after a few seconds the icon will disappear.

According to the event log :

Process C:\Windows\System32\SystemSettingsBroker.exe (process ID:2812) reset overlay policy scheme from {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} to {ded574b5-45a0-4f42-8737-46345c09c238}

Occurs a few seconds after entering performance mode.

This is for a 20UD, Lenovo Windows install, all updates, AMD 4750U
