Re: Maximum amount of Memory in a ThinkPad T410

2012-10-25, 0:57 AM

I have exactly the same computer. Here is what I have tried:

- 2x 8GB = didn't work

- 1x 4GB + 1x 8GB = didn't work

- 1x 2GB + 1x 8GB = didn't work

- 1x 8GB = didn't work

- 2x 4GB = WORKS....

So maximum is 8GB (2x 4GB)

Hope this helps...

Um, where are you getting 2GB on the mainboard? It has two slots on the underside.

The specs for the ThinkPad T410 list 2x4GB (8GB total) as the max.  I believe the max is probably now 2x8GB for a total of 16GB.

I would be extrremely interested in this: the more RAM I can put in my T410, the better.   Is there anyone who has actually tried cramming two 8 GB SODIMMs in a T410, and have it work?

If anyone can help, I'm offering you a beer/coffee next time we meet! Honest!

I have the model with the i7 CPU, if that's of any import.

That's too bad. By the way, does the RAM have to be unbuffered?

Maybe there is a BIOS patch that would allow for the support of more than 8 GB of RAM?

I have also tried 2GB (near keyboard plate) + 4GB (easy to reach) - and it works (mismatched but can't tell the perf difference really).

FWIW I had the 2x 4GB (from a 3rd party) and it didn't work reliably as a pair.  Probably better to get ultra reliable 2 x 4 pairs if you do (currently about $66 at Crucial, probably same at Kingston)

I agree. The review is not really upto the mark. This device has 2 SODIMM slots.

I already have 2 units, 2GB and 4GB respectively. I am planning to upgrade it to total 8GB, but I am not sure if can upgrade it to 12GB or not?

Any advice / comments?

I can confirm - also the combo 1x2Gb + 1x4GB does work

Welcome to the forum!

The T410 generation supports max 8GB RAM, anything about that won't work. It's an architecture limitation, physically the 8GB DIMMs will fit, but the laptop won't boot.

Re: Maximum amount of Memory in a ThinkPad T410

Sorry to resurrect old post, but this is applicable.

T410 2518-AHU

I5-M560 (2.66GHz)

Bios Rev 1.45 6IET85WW

Installed Memory, per Bios, 16384 MB

Installed Memory, per Ubuntu, 15,5GB

Everywhere I read, 8GB was max or won't boot. I ordered Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) to upgrade the 410 and 16GB to upgrade x220. Grabbed wrong memory during install. Imagine surprise when I saw 16GB...

So, do I have an extraordinary T410? I did prefer the 16 to go into the x220, but not going to mess with a good thing.  I just am trying to figure out how this happened.
