Re: New T460s problems

2016-04-03, 3:32 AM

Having owned multiple T-series laptops, T43, T60p, T430s, and T460s, the battery life on the T460s is as advertised.  If it is not, and you get less than 8 hours on while on WiFi with mild CPU use -- return it.  Currently, my Lenovo battery manager on a two-week old T460s, says 4:44 (50% left), and its been at 12/15 brightness... YMMV, but it should really not be any less than 6hour of full-time use.

Given that the battery is harder to replace on the T460s, if the battery doesn't work after initial setup and driver updates, replace it with one that is not a lemon.

FWIW, this is the first T-series where the battery life is now usable on a coast-to-coast flight.

Thank you for the feedback. I did not want to take the risk, and decided to go with T460 instead of T460s.

It would really have been a lot more helpful, had someone from

Lenovo staff responded with solid test numbers and relieved us by showing us the factual numbers after driver update.

When I read conflicting reviews here and there, it really makes it difficult for me to take the risk if going through the hassle of the return of an item after purchase.

OK, so I worked with the updated T460s for 3 days now. The battery life seems to be longer. At work, I usually now get around 5 -5.5 hours, about 1 hours more. This is certainly an improvement, but not even close to the advertised all day battery life.

My situation is like yours. What is your configuration by the way?

I have a FHD IPS non-touch, 8gb ram, 512 PCIe SSD, i7-6600u.

Sorry not sure whether that was scarasm but I was just checking if we have the same configuration so that we can eliminate one possibility.

Anyway I get about 6 hours by going straight into battery saver mode once I switch on my laptop at work. I am pretty sure Lenovo did not intend for that.

Re: New T460s problems

I also recently purchased an T460s - i've had the machine a week and very disappointed.

Previously had several x200 series with no issues

This was meant to be a work horse machine with plain looks but low weight, fast performance and long battery life.  On the first two - yes but performance is poor. Word/excel frequently crash in standard non-turbo mode.  You then have to turn on the turbo with fan - it's so noisy i can't concentrate.  Battery life the same issue - only getting 3-4 hours whereas I easily got well over 5 with my x series.

Also cant get low resolution on an extended screen unless i set the font on the laptop to tiny - not sure what's going on there

Anybody want a newly new laptop?

I just realized i never sent my configuration. I have touch, i5, 256, 16GB RAM.

The battery life has decreased again with recent updates. I am back to below 5 hours now.

(Not) good that someone else also has issues with Office. Outlook 2016 sometimes takes forever to do stuff on the T460s, sometimes if is normal. Same with Word and Excel. My old X240 with the same software has none of these lags, it just goes. With 10 hours of battery life.....

I have a T460s (configuration in signature below) with 20GB RAM, Windows 10, Office 2016. I have found the system to be both quiet and extremely fast compared to my W520. The system even rivals my P70 on single thread tasks. I hardly ever hear the fan as loud (yet it does run at times), but not intrusive. My battery life is averaging around 7+ hours, but it only got there after several battery charge cycles.

What OS are you running?
