OS fresh install -- with or without docking station attached?

2015-11-29, 18:41 PM

My last two re-install of Windows 7 on my T430s have always hampered my ability to successfully use USB ports on the docking station and sometimes the PC.  Sometimes my wireless mouse will work with one of the USB ports, and then another another, while other devices attached to the other work just fine.

So, I am wonding if it matters whether during a fresh install, the installing OS should recognize the docking station is attached so that the proper drivers are installed.

Thanks,

After your re-installs are you running ThinkVantage System Update to bring everything up to date?

Do you believe this is absolutely necessary?  Trying to avoid Lenovo bloat.

I don't consider up-to-date drivers bloat - and obviously something is wrong.

You don't have to accept everything TVSU offers.

Bloat?  Most definitely yes, when a single driver + program install are more than 100MB, each.  So I would rather Win7 just look it up through Windows update, and install the lastest.  At this point also the Win7 - T430s platform would have stabilized.

Unless you are stating (and I should be inferring) that my docking station has a hardware problem, my question remains.  Nothing in ThinkVantage has specific drivers for a docking station.
