Older BIOS/Downgrade of BIOS - T15p Gen 1 type 20TN

2020-12-04, 20:13 PM

Hi,

Recently got this device at work, as I have freedom to make changes - I often use ThrottleStop or Intel XTU to play with voltage to improve thermals.

This has been working awesome for 2-3 years on other laptops and has saved me 10-15C with same performance.

Seems this model has recent BIOS updates that has microcode updates from Intel locking voltage(Thanks Intel), does anyone know (and have) older BIOS versions that has voltage unlocked?

Would love to have a laptop not running at 95-100C on heavy load.

EDIT;

Just tried running Intel XTU and made a simple CPU stress test, fan seems to be at max (5k+ RPM) and CPU is 98-100C, Turbo on - without it goes down obviously.
Thanks.

The available older BIOS versions are at the bottom of the page.  There may or may not be security "firestops" that prevent rolling back to some version, and no clue if they will do what you want...

Maybe I should scroll the next time.. Thanks a lot - I'll test it.

Completely understand that some updates exist for a reason.

Ok, seems its blocked.

No matter what I do it wont work even with changed BIOS settings to allow downgrade or running it directly using WinFlash64.exe /sd /file

This is extremely frustrating.

Should T15p really run at 100C at full load?

It's insanely hot and loud, I understand that CPU can operate on this temp, but I've never experienced such bad thermals before.
