One Key just does not function and they said it's a minor problem, no exchange, no full refund

2009-06-22, 7:44 AM

I got my T400 on May 29th with a whole lot expectation and become disillusioned immediatedly after I turned it on. One key just did not function. Letter "A" had to be pressed really hard otherwise it won't type at all. I called customer service and asked for refund or exchange, and they said it was a minor problem! They could send a new keyboard but there's no way to exchange it and I have to pay a 15% storage fee if want to return it. No full refund, even you got a lemon! However, I had to compromise, so I just accepted the deal to replace the keyboard. But I do want others know things like this happen if you buy Lenovo.

You get a new keyboard and you are not satisfied?

Sorry, if i don't understand your issue here correctly.

You get a new keyboard. Is that not ok?

The exchange of the keyboard is really easy. It's just one screw really and it can easily be exchanged by a non-technician.

Thinkpad keyboards have been designed (for years) to be user replaceable. It's very simple and instructions

are provided with the replacement keyboard.

Hi Oemer and Confederate,

Thanks for reply.

I did get a new keyboard and it works ok now. What upset me was that the guy said it was a MINOR problem, I just do not quite understand why this is a MINOR problem, at least, I do not think so. And that's why I insisted exchange or refund.

Best

Spencer

I think what he meant by a minor problem is that it is something where they can send you the part and you can easily change it yourself.

A major problem would be a motherboard or LCD failure. That has to be sent in for repairs in most cases.
