Question about accessories for the ThinkPad 25

2019-01-08, 17:25 PM

I purchased a new, unboxed ThinkPad 25 on eBay. It will actually be my first ThinkPad. I plan to use it as a work computer for when I occasionally travel.

I've been looking at the available accessories but want to make certain I order ones that are compatible. I'm posting here in hopes that I could get some of you to provide me with appropriate links to the compatible accessories.

From what I understand, there is a larger battery available that also tilts the ThinkPad at an angle when in use. Could someone give me a link for that battery?

Often I need to connect to a data projector. Most these days use HDMI which is on the side of the ThinkPad 25, but occasionally I have to use an older projector with VGA. What is the correct USB-C to VGA adapter to use?

One final question: I know that the ThinkPad 25 can be updated to 32 GB of RAM. Could someone give me a link to the correct RAM to order for the ThinkPad 25 from any vendor you'd recommend?

Are there any other "essential" accessories you think I might need?

Thanks for everyone's help!

Hi,

Welcome to the forums!

Try the Accessory smartfind.  It has links for batteries, vga adapter and memory and other accessories.

T25 has only one slot.  Single 32GB DIMM sticks are hard to find.  I don't know if they have been tried in the T25, but I don't know any reason why it wouldn't work.  When 16GB DIMMs were first out and hard to find I bought them from a 3rd party seller on eBay.  THIS DOES NOT MEAN I RECOMMEND ANY BRAND OR HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH ANY 32GB SO-DIMM STICKS.  I can say that when I bought the 16GB sticks they did work.

Search on eBay for "32gb single sodimm ddr4".

"T25 has only one slot."

Are you sure? Every teardown I've seen, video and photo, shows two slots. There's a 16 GB stick in one, and the other is empty.

See, for instance, here

I used the Accessory Smartfind and now have the greater capacity battery as well as the video adapter. The additional 16 GB RAM stick from Lenovo is three times the price of the one I found at Amazon. Would anyone be willing to take a look at the Amazon link for me to verify it's compatible before I order?

That will probably work.  The safest is always to get Lenovo-branded memory, so always check a seller's return policy when buying non-Lenovo RAM.

It didn't work. Well, it worked at first after I installed the RAM stick I got from Amazon, but later the ThinkPad 25 froze up in the middle of the night and then wouldn't restart. I reseated it, and it worked, but as soon as I rebooted, I was back to staring at a black screen.

I sent the RAM back to Amazon for a refund and have ordered the it at a much higher price ? from Lenovo. It should be here on Monday.

What I did when I wanted to upgrade the RAM for my TP25 was to look up the exact module type (using CPU-Z, or Lenovo Diagnostics), and order the same exact module on eBay. So far so good.
