Question re RapidBoot HDD Accelerator (on a T430u)

2012-12-09, 16:53 PM

I've recently gotten a T430u with 8GB of memory, the default 320GB spinning hard disk and 32GB mSATA cache. It's running the 64-bit version of Win7.

I noticed that the RapidBoot: BootShield was turned On by default, but the RapidBoot HDD Accelerator was not [according to the applet in the Control Panel]. It's labeled "32-bit" in the Control Panel listing even though I'm running the 64-bit version of Win7. Any reason not to turn on the HDD Accelerator? Why would it ship in the default Off condition?

My plan is to eventually replace the spinning HDD with a full SSD but until then, what is the recommended setting for the HDD Accelerator utility?

[Edit:  Actually it seems that "RapidBoot HDD Accelerator Service" is running in Task Manager whether the enable box in the control panel is checked or not. So I guess that means it's working but it's all a bit puzzling... I'd be interesed in anybody's comments who can shed light on this. ]

Maybe using the two together would confuse the cache program? Might as well enable it and see.
