Questions dealing with hard drive replacement T500

2009-07-13, 4:00 AM

Hi Lenovo community,

My question is regarding replacing the stock 120 GB HDD that was installed with my factory T500 laptop with a Western Digital Scorpio or related laptop HDD.

  • First of all, would that void any factory warranty that came with the laptop (it's from this last year)?
  • Secondly, if I did a transfer of all the files from my original HDD to the new one would I have to manually partition the drive to have the Backup and Startup drives function normally?
  • Lastly, would the APS still function normally?

I really appreciate the advice and solutions you all provide.

Thanks ahead of time!

1) Yes warranty is retained for all your laptop parts other than the aftermarket hdd

2) burn a set of recovery media and then burn the rescue and recovery backup discs, after you install the new hdd, then restore your hdd using the recovery media and restore your windows and software using rescue and recovery backup discs.

3) yes, all the new SATA drive have head parking feature.

Some questions:

I have a t500 with original 160gb hdd,

bought 320gb to be used as laptop hdd and old 160gb hdd to be used as external backup.

Xp OS Sp3 was oem. I do have Xp Sp0 but not sure if installing/formating new 320gb will work out for the migration.

And here are my questions as this is a first for me.

After burning "rescue n recovery backup" where/how do I recover the "rescue n recovery backup" data in the new drive?

Do I boot with these?

or

recover in rescue n recovery?

How do I burn a set of recovery media? From ThinkVantage "back up my data"?

I would like 2 partitions on my new 320hdd.

Do I format it as an external hdd first with current laptop?

Please give details as to the sequence of the proccess of transfering data/swapping hdd.

Many many thanks!
