Betreff: R400/T400/T500/W500 - Issue with Intel GPU 8.752.4 with Win 7 SP1

2011-05-04, 6:51 AM

i am with kekiman, although my thinkpad t400 is now two and a half years old, it's a pain in the ass with this switchable graphics from day one. And Lenovo's switch to the nvidia optimus solution and letting their existing customers with the unbeloved switchable graphics hang is not very likeable.

I also can understand that Lenovo wants me to buy a new laptop and yes, i am willing to (W520), but until I can afford a 3000€ Laptop I still need to work. Work with my Dockingstation and two Monitors. And work while i am travelling, but with the best energy saving i can get. And therefore I need switchable graphics.

So please Lenovo, get this sh** working... Your customers have suffered enough (over two and a half month)...

Indeed and I wonder when Lenovo comes up with a compensation proposal.

We just gotta hold on a bit more; almost there :)

Way off-topic, but has anyone been using the 11.4 Catalyst drivers on the ATI side? I'm getting shadow glitches in Dead Space 2 on it that I'm not seeing with 11.3 or 11.2.

In the time this thread has gone from beginning to now, I have sold my T400 to a relative, and have set it to the ATI graphics.

The one thing I was tempted to do (and didn't) was not buy another ThinkPad.  The T420 was just a better fit for my needs than the Dell Latitude E6420.

I'm still disappointed as a whole in how Lenovo supported the T400's touted switchable graphics over the lifetime of the product.  For customers who bought a business laptop, expecting the best, all of us have been let down in that regard.

In this case, I hope what is likely to be the final driver is well-tested on the Intel and AMD side to resolve all issues.  Considering the wait users have had to endure, they deserve it.

I would really like to send this thread to a person at Lenovo that really has something to say. But of course I don't know any. At least some quality assurance boss at higher level. Right now the situation is like the way it usually goes.
Some developers and supporters help us, invest time and hurry up and do their job as good as they can and the management never gets informed. If no one who has the ability to change some processes due to his high position will be noticed about the grievance only one thing will happen: NOTHING except that this situation will happen again in the future with other products.
I'mn really dissapointed because a company like Lenovo should check their products compatibilty with the OS of the products the sell. They had months to test W7-SP1. MONTHS!! And did NOTHING! And I paid a good price not to struggle with lousy products. If they go on like that they will end up on the same level as the competitors like ASUS, Samsung & Co. Of course the market share will dicrease in that situation. And suddenly the managers will wonder how this could happen.

No ETA given from development. If their test is successful, should be out in a week or two.

Btw Colonel, you have one T400?

Finally, there is some hope, that I get a fully functional T400 again. I've problems since I installed SP1 by the network package, I've roundabout the problem by disabling discrete graphics and installing the newest Intel, which worked (since long running time on battery is, for me, more important than performance). But still, I miss playing games from time to time, that would need a littler faster graphics ;).

So please, speed up in testing and hopefully, everything works then...
