Re: R400/T400/T500/W500 - Issue with Intel GPU 8.752.4 with Win 7 SP1

The 11.1a Catalyst drivers work with the existing switchable drivers. You just have to install 11.1a after manually. Pretty sure 11.2 would work too.

"The 11.1a Catalyst drivers work with the existing switchable drivers. You just have to install 11.1a after manually. Pretty sure 11.2 would work too."

Are you speaking theoretically or from experience. If from experience, then how did you get the 11.1 or .2 driver to install? I went to the AMD driver software download page, downloaded the appropriate driver and when opening the installer file it gives a message to the effect that the driver is not supported on this system (T400 with switchable graphics, Intel/AMD) and to get the driver from the OEM. Also the AMD driver release notes page states, towards the bottom:

"The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:

  • Any notebook launched after this driver release
  • Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel® chipsets.
  • Toshiba® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
  • Sony® VAIO® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
  •  Panasonic® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)"

Says the same for either the 11.1 or .2 drivers.

I have 11.1a installed right now. You install the Lenovo one first, then go into Device Manager with the discrete card turned on and force feed it the driver inf in the extracted package.

Works fine and dandy, also lets me overclock:

Everything I've tried downloading from AMD/ATI only includes installation .exe/.msi, .sys, or .dll files and no .inf included. Where are you getting the .inf file from? I'm only seeing the download here http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#1 and none of the packages there seem to have an .inf when unpacked etc. to manually install from Device Manager. Weird.

Get the file from here:
32-bit: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php/general/general/ATI-Catalyst-5.13-Win2000/XP/Windows-2000/AMD-Catalyst-11.2-Win-7-Vista-x32-download-2676.html
64-bit: http://downloads.guru3d.com/AMD-Catalyst-11.2-Win-7-Vista-x64-download-2677.html

The following is a repost using 11.1a, so watch the folder paths.

Here are the steps:

1. Install the latest Lenovo switchable driver package.
2. Switch to the discrete card.
3. Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters > ATI Radeon 3400 Series
4. Right-click > Update Driver Software > Browse...
5. Let me pick... > Have Disk
6a. 32-bit: C:\amd\AMD_Catalyst_11.1a_Win7_Jan26\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF
6b. 64-bit: C:\amd\AMD_Catalyst_11.1a_Win7_Jan26\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF
(assuming 11.1a extracted to default path)
7. Find ATI Radeon 3400 Series in the list.
8. Continue, and accept the warning.
9. If you want to install CCC2, go to C:\amd\AMD_Catalyst_11.1a_Win7_Jan26\Packages\Apps\CCC2\ and install the MSI in Core-Static. The other ones are unnecessary AFAIK.

EDIT: Any one notice this?

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=339823

EDIT2: Nuts. It looks to be for the Intel HD Graphics and 64-bit only.

@colonelONeill: Much thanks to you for your diligence. :smileyhappy: Even though I followed your instructions the updated driver would still not install, giving a "not compatible with this version of windows error" at the end. After several attempts and variations at getting the thing to install I finally went to the guru3d.com forum link that was given on the download page and in the discussion thread there I downloaded from this link: http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/11-2_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe, double-clicked to extract/install and just let it do its thing. FINALLY the 11.2 driver version installed. I didn't even have to mess with the manual Device Manager method. But thanks to you for the help in getting me going in the right direction to find a download that worked.

Yeah... I've seen that error once before on my T400, and once also on my X100e when trying to feed Windows the newer drivers. Someone else also experienced it. In all cases, it seemed fiddling with the original setup wizard seemed to get it to go through.

The Device Manager method is a lot cleaner; you don't get the piles of useless stuff that CCC installs; just the Core-Static package is sufficient.

Hi JameZ

Are we getting closer to new drivers? Has a release date been defined?
