How about IE9 - is this available through Win Update yet as I have not seen it?

Re: R400/T400/T500/W500 - Issue with Intel GPU 8.752.4 with Win 7 SP1

IE9 was released last night.  It is now available in four separate installers (x86 and x64), two for Win7/Server08 R2, and two for Vista/Server 08.

I already have all of the offline installers.  Word is that those who have the RC will receive an automatic upgrade;  I will probably just install over the top, as I've been testing the RC on my laptop.

@mikefnz  --I understand your willingness to wait.  However, I know that the last time ThinkPad owners waited, it was a year before a driver update came  With respect, I think if we're all too willing to wait, it will be months before we see a fix.  I myself, am not willing to wait that long.

I'm keeping my T400 for awhile longer, but how Lenovo engineering handles this will be a big factor in whether my next purchase down the road is a T420, or a competitor's product.

Lonewolf,

I am in the exact same situation. I am keeping my T400 for one more year. A quick resolution of this issue will deterimine whether or not I stay onboard with Lenovo, or jump ship.  I have looked at some of the competitors with the same Intel/ATI switchable graphics setup, and they have already released a new switchable graphics driver to address the Intel GPU driver issue.

Mike

Last Tuesday Windows Update installed KB2505438 and incidentally, Live Messenger 2011 started hanging AGAIN when running the Intel GPU. I uninstalled it and the problem went away. We really need updated drivers.

I agree that waiting a year would be excessive!

Also agree that support experience is a large factor in determining future hardware purchases.

Once upon a time, Lenovo created the world. And one day, engineering declared that there is no problem. And so it was.

I don't understand your issues guys, a problem it can't be.

So we can't get SP1 because it's smart enough to figure out we have a bad driver but not smart enough not to load the bit that causes the problem - gotta love M$

It is a little worrying that we don't even have a target date for a drive or any indication it's being worked on

Eh. You can apparently disable IE9 GPU acceleration in the Options as a workaround for IE9 only. Not sure about other affected programs.

I'd install IE9 and report, but something I did recently borked Windows's update system.

@Izmi,

Engineering did not declare that there is no problem. As I have a T400 here and am able to see the issue clearly (am not an engineer )

The team are currently working on this issue.

The engineer did declare it wasn't a problem few months ago when the new driver was released.  I was told the problem was because of me using those  non-support beta software such as IE9 or Firefox 4.  Yet some of us could already PROVED the problem on Live messenger 2011. Nothing was being done at that time.

Later on, we learned the root cause is because of the outdated Intel driver conflict with fixes on Windows 7.  Again, as far as I can tell, nothing was done except telling us to uninstall those fixes.

Now Win 7 SP1 has released.  So we can't uninstall the fix as workaround.   IE9 has released.  Firefox will be release next week and yet, we still don't have an expected date on the driver.

My T500 with Windows Experience 1.0 never ever works properly with win7 x64 because of the switchable driver .  I don't know what your customer can expect on Windows Experience 2.0 on the new Thinkpad if the Lenovo Engineer keep tweeking win 7 to improve the boot up time but yet  has difficultly on update the drivers to resolve compatibility issue. We are not at 1990 where we can installed the OS and disallowed to install fixes.
