Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7

The information PDF still states that it doesn't support ATI/Intel hybrid switchable setups. However, that said, I will give this driver a try (gonna make sure to make a restore point first).

Edbert: Does the GPU still switch properly? Are power consumption levels as expected?

Yes, the GPU still switches properly. I used the installers that JaLooNz posted. The setup program started and went on to update the drivers. The screen went blank, and stayed blank. I waited for a few minutes (no hard drive activity) and had to reboot the laptop. Windows started normally and Device Manager shows ATI driver version 8.782. The Intel drivers are the ones provided by the official Lenovo switchable drivers (the ones released on Octobre 2009). BIOS version is 3.19 (latest).

I'm gonna stick with this until I Lenovo releases the official drivers. My battery life waking up from sleep went from 3 to 6:30 hours.

6.5 hours? Are you on a 9-cell? If you run a game on the discrete mode, does it run as smoothly as before? (I'm running a system image backup before I install it; driver install muckups tend to be difficult to resolve.)

This is weird, I can't get it to install; it doesn't seem to want to update the driver versions. So you didn't have to Mobility Mod it?

I am running 7x86 and have already had the latest 7vd614ww drivers installed.

I got the installer to offer to update the drivers by switching to discrete with Power Manager, but it fails; the log simply states "Driver Install: the installation failed". I'll try pointing Device Manager at the extracted drivers.

Hi,

thank you so much for recommending the 10.10 drivers. I installed the "official" 10.10 from AMD's site on top of the Lenovo switchable drivers some hours ago. No problems at all AND the standby problem is gone : )

Greetz!

I concur; after using Device Manager to forcibly load the INF using "Have Disk", the driver updated successfully (did end up with a black screen which I had to hold the power button, but came back okay) and the standby issue is no longer present. Battery life is as expected, and all systems are go. One little thing that has appeared is that Aero turns off and on noticeably now during the switch where it hasn't before. Minor detail. ^_^

Switching works with the new ATI 10.10 driver flawlessly, but I can't change display brightness on discrete mode! Is that a faulty installation or do others have an similar result? Thanks, sonny

I'm not sure why that is. I do remember having that exact same issue when I tried mixing Lenovo's drivers and the 10.9 Catalyst. However, I'm not having that issue with this version.

How exactly did you install it? Via the given executable or through Device Manager?

Brightness problems in discrete mode  + 1 :(

Still, much better than Lenovo's driver.
