How exactly did you install it? Via the given executable or through Device Manager?

The installation went well with the given installer. I had a "successful finished" installation and could normally reboot my system. The previous driver was also from ATI but from Sept.

Maybe I should reinstall the whole thing (drivers) but better were the drivers from lenovo, of course ;)

I can confirm that I also can't change the display brightness on discrete mode. Minor issue compared to having both GPUs active.

That's strange; I have the new driver installed and have no issues changing the display brightness. Try rolling back to the Lenovo drivers.

When I installed, my installation on the ATI Display Driver failed for whatever reason, but Catalyst Control Center and the rest installed properly. After I forced the driver using Have Disk in Device Manager, I promptly blackscreened; but the system was perfectly fine; it hibernated and resumed properly. I forcibly powered off after trying to blindly invoke a restart. Upon resume, everything was working.

*Note: I have this really random three minute startup delay that's appeared now; I can't pinpoint the cause. It occurs after the Welcome screen and before Explorer and all of the startup items load. Doesn't occur on resume from Standby or Hibernate.

In my case, the problem actually has been solved - kind off.  It's because the power consumption seems to be still very high initially after resume but power will slowly goes down.  Look like to me the ati chip still activate after resume and take time for it to in sleep mode/power off.

I re-tried the drivering, and now I indeed can't change brightness on discrete. Nevertheless, it does show certain installation procedures will render brightness switching operable with the new drivers.

Where did you download the new driver?

Have you tried this one?

JaLooNz:

Try do uninstall everything from ATI and use a Cleaner (CCleaner for instance) afterwards (I used also a driver cleaner).

Then install the original driver from lenovo and the new from above after restart (as you did it before).

Make sure that every other components are up to date as well (PM Driver, Power Manager, BIOS and other Updates).

With kind regards,

Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: Switchable graphics issues with Win 7

Hi,

any chance of getting new switchable driver from Lenovo ? Official driver for W500 is one year old and at least twelve catalyst versions have been released in the meantime. I cannot install official ATI driver because it does not corretly detect diplays (LCD/external) and it is really annoying having to reboot just to switch display...

This is the first and last laptop i buy with a custom-modified video chip, i want to be able to use stock driver from chipset manufacturer.

cheers
