After having installed the newly available display driver (MIGR-70417), the reported "crash after resume"-problem is still there.

Greetings again,

Yes when I called Lenovo last week the Level 1 tech directed me to this download. Funny thing is that after installing and rebooting twice, Device Mgr still showed the older rev of the ATI driver. Sooo, ThinkVantage shows up with the new one on Monday and it "stuck" in Device Mgr, but of course the problem still is here. Funny how if I change it to Intel video everything works like a champ!

Second level support is aware of the problem. Lenovo has now a publicly available document on it: MIGR-70490. Though, there is still no status report from any involved party: Lenovo, ATI, Microsoft.

Re: Tx00/W500: amdkmdap crashes after resuming from standby when external monitor active

2008-10-31, 13:57 PM

This is another DVI related issue with the T500/mini-dock:

I installed Vista (was XP Pro Downgrade) from a set of recovery CDs a colleague made.  Upon finishing, there was no ATI driver--so I downloaded and installed from Lenovo--worked great!  Then I went to snap into the mini-dock.  (DVI connection to a Planar 19" (PL1910M)).  The screen flashed a few times and then it stated a reboot was required.  I rebooted, and my monitor showed nothing.  I popped open the notebook and checked Device Manager--the ATI driver is gone!  I could not find any evidence of the ATI driver (although the Catalyst software was still installed.)  I tried to start ATI Control Center and it says it does not support the installed driver.   I re-recovered and re-installed the ATI driver and tried it with a VGA and it works fine.  The T61 supported the DVI fine, why is the T500 having issues?

Hi Jason,

I am not sure whether you're having the same issue. This thread relates to driver crashes.

Nevertheless, you shouldn't suffer driver problems. You're using Vista, right?

To install the ATI drivers, I suggest that you do the following:

- Do not use a docking station until you've successfully installed the drivers (and don't think that this is necessary but it helps to rule out problems relating to a docking station).

- Download the ATI drivers from here: MIGR-70417.

- Make sure that the BIOS setting for "Graphics Device" is set to "Switchable Graphics" (the default) and also set "OS Detection for Switchable Graphics" to "Enabled" (the default).

Then proceed as follows:

1. Uninstall the drivers you have according to the uninstallation instructions in MIGR-70417.

2. Install the drivers according to the installation instructions in MIGR-70417.

Be sure that you understand the instructions before you do anything. Also, if you have data on your system, perform a backup

More evidence that the driver crashes is really an ATI driver problem: 4870 + Vista 64 + Aero + MultiMonitor = BSOD.

I am still wondering why it is so difficult for a company to confirm that there is a problem.

I bought a T500 last weekend. And on Vista 32 amdkmdap crashes when playing video files in full screen mode quite often. I hope Lenovo can solve this issue ASAP.

I noticed that my crashes were often related to some of Vista's advanced graphics features, so I went into Advanced System Properties and changed the setting from "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer" to "Adjust for best performance". Things aren't quite as pretty, but so far no more crashes.
