Hi, I have been running the bios since uploaded on a T580 and Ultra Dock with 3 external monitors.  Everything has been running great with no random sleeps that I was experiencing before.

Thank you so much for your feedback (and DiPersiaTech too)

Re: Random sleeps on T580 w/ Ultra Docking Station - Intel Thermal Framework issue

Hello Lenovo Staff and all TShooting this issue.

First of all, thanks a lot for logging this issue, the efforts in troubleshooting and for the test BIOS version.

We are in middle of rollout to T580 machines here in our company and already had 5 users complaining about random sleeping of their machines during work.

I installed Bios version N27E27A1 (1.13) on 1 machine (this morning) and first tests seem promising.

Now my question : When will this BIOS version be officially released/published? As we are hesitant to use a TES/BETA bios version as per default on all machines we rollout. BUT on the other hand we would like to avoid all the timeloss of having to correct afterwards on all rolled out T580 machines.

Thanks for your prompt feedback ;)

Daan

I'm checking on the schedule to release a formal BIOS that contains this fix.  So far, the schedule has not been set.

Bad news :( Re: Random sleeps on T580 w/ Ultra Docking Station - Intel Thermal Framework issue

Dear staff,

Sadly enough, installing the test BIOS version did not prevent my test pc to go into random sleep during work activities:(.

I did however use the 64 bit flash utility tool, instead of the 32 bit one as indicated in your steps.

Tried again using the 32 bit tool, but tool says that BIOS version is already present.

When I check the system event log, I can see where the machine goes to sleep, but it simply says "reason: application API", and doesn't indicate which app ( brilliant ). I don't see any errors from hardware or anything relating to sleep in the application log that would point to what is going on either.

I now disabled all sleep settings in advanced power plan settings and unticked certain Microsoft and Lenovo services in msconfig sta that seem to have to do with thermal regulation, hoping that this will help.

Big disappointment though as I really was convinced and relieved that our T580 pcs issue of them going into random sleep was finally going to be resolved.

Especially since we have +200 machines in stock for rollout !:(

jovak1100,

Did you load the BIOS default settings after installing the test BIOS?

Everyone else I've heard from says the test BIOS solves the issue, but loading the default settings in BIOS setup is a key step.

My user has been good for over a week, though they also haven't rebooted in that time (Which is when they frequently see the sleeping.)  Will report back once I hear of a good reboot from the user.

@someotherguy I noticed BIOS version 1.13 was released on 18 Jul, and I'm wondering if it contains the fix provided in your test version? I applied the update yesterday and ironically after rebooting, it immediately went to sleep upon logging into Windows (which is actually the first time it's happened on my machine in a while.)

BIOS 1.13 does NOT contain the fix.
