So today the technician came with the right fan, however the noice is at least as bad as it was - probably worse.

 

I am quite disappointed.

Did you get to spin either of the fans manually in-hand to see if they were noisy?

 

I am still waiting to get a call from the technician to make an appointment today. :P

No, actually I did not try to do that.

 

Would be interesting though to see whether it is a resonance problem with the case ...

So after waiting all day for a call from the technician I finally decided to call Lenovo to see whats going on.

 

Lenovo representative "Steven" tell's me that there was an issue with my warranty and that the issue was passed onto the warranty department for verification - so no technician has even been notified of the repair job! So much for "Next business day on-site warranty" ... he says to me "That is a goal we strive for but it's not part of the warranty contract", to which I reply, "Yes, but it's a selling point that you use and as such don't you think your clients are counting on that, especially when they are told that they will get a call from a technician the next day? Why can't Lenovo email the client or phone the client to let them know what's gone wrong?" ... He then complains about their ticketing system and how it doesn't always deliver the ticket updates on time etc etc .... Like I care about that ...

 

Stupid thing is that I myself had no issue looking up my machine's warranty info on Lenovo's website. So why the heck are they having difficulty with it!?

 

So, yeah ... not a great day for Lenovo's customer support ... again ...

So, short update from my side...

 

I got a call from Lenovo on my mailbox, where their told me that now the 'Systemboard' must be replaced. Unfortunately the spare parts are not available right now and I would get a call when I can get one... 

 

But I really don't think that this will solve the issue. They are just replacing some parts as a usual procedure and not fixing the real problem. In addation I think that these "repairs" damage the laptop even more...

 

Just a side note: I have an laptop with a preinstalled OS (Windows 7). But as the others already mentioned, the noise has nothing to do with software...

Hi friedewurst,

 

Could you please post here the FRU numbers of the current and the future fan? I had the same problem and it got solved only with the 2nd fan replacement - and I didn't take a notice on the part numbers. I'm pretty sure that one type of the fans must be the cause.

Shouldn't the technician have a record of what part was replaced with what part?

hi targetaudience,

 

so the 2nd fan replacement did solve the noise issue?? Until now i thought that evry replacement was a failure.
