Reds are orange?

2017-10-12, 21:29 PM

I've been setting up my new T25 this afternoon. I LOVE the keyboard, but the colors on the display leave much to be desired. Reds are displayed as an orangey color and I don't seem to be able to change it much. Also, I can't get the NVIDIA display to drive the LCD. There does not seem to be a way to set the display to discrete in the BIOS. What am I missing? I'm close to returning this system unless I can adjust the colors properly. Any ideas here?

I don't have a T25 to look at, but do you have an nVIDIA control panel installed?  There are options on what programs should use the discrete graphics.

What is the p/n of LCD panel?
Is there NVIDIA graphics in Device Manager?
Regarding the screen colors Windows ICM file file might help if color profile it's not applyed yet. Get it on T470 support page (monitor INF package). Otherwise, hw calibration is needed.

Here's what I tried:

1. There is NO setting in the BIOS to use the discrete graphics. The system will always use the Intel 620 graphics for the LCD. Only the external ports are controlled by the NVIDIA 940MX.

2. I've tried to calibrate the display using different .ICM files including the one from Notebookcheck.com, but the reds are still orangey. I should note that I have had FHD displays before like on my W520 and the reds were usually oversaturated.

3. The datasheet that is posted in this forum section clearly stated that there is a WWAN card (EM7455) installed as part of the configuration, yet it is not present in the system build that I received.

Lenovo_ThinkPad_25_Datasheet v1.1.pdf ‏3433 KB

4. Monitor panel shows as LEN40A9

5. Both display adapters are present in the device manager.

6. Applied the .inf from the T470 with no change.

I love the keyboard!!! It is so nice to have great tactal feel on the keys again. However, I cannot live with the muted colors and the orangey reds on the display. Also, I was under the impression the NVIDIA to drive the LCD, but you cannot not!!!  I will return this system via RMA in the AM.

Newer ThinkPads except for the P-Series can´t be switched between Optimus and Discrete mode (or pure Intel mode for that matter). They are always Optimus.

"4. Monitor panel shows as LEN40A9"

Thats not saying much. More to identify the LCD, you need its model number, which can be found out via various ways, one of them is using HWiNFO. But I guess if you send it back anyway, it doesn´t matter.

Note that all the screens in the ThinkPad 25 are rated at 45 % NTSC gamut (as all the screens in the T470), so colors looking wrong is normal on these screens. They just can´t display very many colors. Good LCDs have 72 % NTSC gamut, excellent displays (like the 4K LCD in my P51) have 100 %, though thats probably not needed for most people.

The nVIDIA control panel is installed, but the system configuration does not allow it to be connected to the LCD, only to external monitors.

Re: Reds are orange?

Thank you for your responses. I guess that it's been a long time since I saw how limited the gamut is on the T-series systems. Your explanation makes perfect sense with the 45% gamut range. My other systems are the P70, T460s, and the T470s so I'm accustomed to a much better/wider color rendition on the laptop display. All of this is disappointing at best. The keyboard and the overall feel of the T25 is so good, that I was tempted for a brief time to just live with the poor colors. Reluctantly I obtained an RMA to return the system. It really too bad that a quality WQHD display like I have in my T460s and the T470s could not have been the default configuration. The T25 is for a niche market and certainly a better display would not have been been objected to by anyone purchasing a unit.

My reds are fine, but they could be blue or green for all I care at this point. I'm not giving up this keyboard for Any Reason. It's such a relief to have a good keyboard again. The feel and feedback are wonderful!

Could you, please, confirm the LCD p/n? ibmthink above explained how to get it . Or have a look at the registry.

Such information might help others as there are two FHD LCDs in T25' list from BOE and AUO.
