SSD PCIE 3.0 X4 FAILURE

2020-09-06, 16:04 PM

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T570 with a i7-7500u cpu.I bought a Samsung SSD PM981a 1tb to replace his old 256gb ssd. When I run crystal disk mark read speed show only 1700 mb/s,but his benchmark read speed is 3500 mb/s.Also in crystal disk info at transfer mode show Current mode PCIe 3.0 x2; Supported mode PCIE 3.0 x4.How to set to PCIE x4 to increase my read speed?

AFAIK the m.2 cable assembly only brings two PCIe lanes to the SSD.  You won't be able to get x4.

Hi,thanks for the response

When i buy the laptop the specs was PCIE 3.0 x4.This is very bad, because i pay a lot of money for this laptop. In benchmark its write transfer rate PCIE 3.0 x2 Current mode and Supported mode is PCIE 3.0 x4,this means can be set to x4.I bought one ssd samsung 1tb for superior speed, but its the same thing. When i put the ssd in a more than 5 years old laptop the speed was PCIE 3.0 x4 and(double superiority) this is very uncomfortable for me.For sure this laptop can be set to x4 speed because its a professional laptop(profi or not profi?).In this case this laptop was sold with lie publicity. Is true or not?Maybe next time when i will buy a new laptop i will think more then once.Thank you.

I wait one solution from one LENOVO TECHNICIAN how I can set to x4 lines speed.

Regards

The Samsung PM961 MZVLW512HMJP is a M.2 22x80 NVMe SSD with a rated capacity of 512 GB. The model is EOL as of July 2019 according to Samsung's website. The Samsung PM961 series is essentially a rebrand of Samsung 960 EVO series intended for use by OEMs. Performance The PM961 uses Samsung's very own Polaris contoller. The four PCI-Express 3.0 lanes allow for a transfer rate of up to 3938 MB/s, seven times the performance of the outdated SATA III link. How you can see on the top this is original Ssd from my Laptop. This was upgraded with PM 981a wich is more faster then 961 . I bought ThinkPad because I love this Laptop but shame on youu shame....for 1500 euro should have 4 lanes Ssd connection. SHHHAAAME on you.

Somebody tell me I not be able to get X4 . WRONG man if the bios show us suported X4 when we put inside one Ssd PCIe x4 must be detect automaticaly and switch beetwin transfer lines. Or our bios is update only for NVMe drive not for PCIe NVMe. I try again to change the SSd with my son Laptop. In his laptop witch is 5 years old than mine is working very well. with original ssd was PCIEx2 and when i put PM 981a automatic jump in PCIex4. Thats whay I thing the BIOS is THE PROBLEM.????.... MUST BE UPDATE FOR BOTH SUPPORTED LINES.
