I have a T420s as well, the specification are here listed at http://lenovo.com/psref, model is at http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf

Be warn thought, I was trying to upgrade my SSD, which is a Samsung SSD. Was thinking of getting an Intel X-25 or Intel 320. However, I read in several forums some of these SSD may NOT work for the T420s.

Here is the speed of my SamsungSSD, which I found quite good, except maybe it does not have the trim features which was available in the Intel SSD. I would monitor my SSD performance to see if it drops when several cycle of delete/erase of the cells were completed.

Thanks, thats a truly great response with all the info anyone could ever want :-)

Seems there all limited to Sata 3gb/s so none of the latest and greatest ssd's are gonna be used at there max, shame.

I have a Sony Z currently and that is in Raid and max's out read and write at 300, trouble is Sony did a custom job on the installation and you cant swap it so was thinking/hoping of getting a thinkpad with a hard drive and then just swapping to whatever fits the bill, i would have thought it would be an easy swap ? I wonder if the issue is like the Sony in as much as swapping an SSD for an SSD ?

the latest Thinkpads (so T, W, X (not sure about X120e)) are all SATA6 capable.

If I understand correctly, swapping a HDD to SSD in lenovo X and T series  is one of the simplest operation, its on the side and a small philip screwdriver is all needed

Ideasmiths, thats what i would have thought, they are just a hard drive as far as the laptop is concearned surely ? unless theres some specific hardware fitting issue like there was with my Vaio Z.

Does Matt still work for Lenovo?  His last reply or blog post was 2 months ago.

@ThorsHammer, i couldn't answer your question, since i don't work for Lenovo. However:

Most of these blogs are more like public announcements, the bloggers don't always follow up with every requests for support.

Furthermore, Lenovo don't officially support any hardware that is not tested and verified by them.
