Screen Flashes when opening lid after locked - T410s w/discrete -- Video of problem inside

2011-01-07, 2:36 AM

My computer is set to password lock (in Windows 7) when I close the lid, but remain powered on.  When I open the lid of the computer, the screen flashes around 10 times before it gives me the login screen.

My bios is updated, my graphics are turned to 'high performance' ... always on - when plugged in with A/C adapter.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

@paradiddle,

Were you having this issues when your system came out of the box? Also do ensure that your GPU driver is updated as well.

I cant remember - but I'm pretty sure it started when I changed the settings to keep the comp on and to lock when the lid is shut.

GPU drivers (and bios) are up to date

Both are (were up to date)  Still same problem

I notice that as I install more programs (not necessarily that they're open..) it increases the number of flashes.  I'm at 13 now

No I do not...

Although on another note, I also seem to have problems when I do attach my HDMI monitor as well.  When I power up my computer with my hdmi cable attached though displayport adapter, (A/C always plugged in - and set for high performance)   I get a blank screen.  I generally need to restart the computer without the cable attached, then attach it once the computer is started and manually switch the monitors through Fn+F7.  I then need to power off my monitor and power it back on for it to work.

@paradiddle,

If it is possible, could you try removing the password so when the system wakes up from sleep, see if the screen flashes.

Also when your display is "out" to the TV via HDMI, try pressing Fn + F7 and see if you are able to switch it back to laptop view without rebooting. You could also change this via Display Properties.

It doesn't.  When it wakes from sleep it's fine.  I think I might have figured it out... I think the HD shuts off when I close the lid.  Anyone know how to turn this feature off?
