T14 Fn Control Key issues

2020-10-07, 3:24 AM

Hey, I received my new AMD T14 today (coming from an ancient T60) and I noticed that using the Fn + action keys wasn't doing anything. I had to hit ctrl+action for them to work. Weirdly, the Fn key only worked to adjust the backlit keyboard.

I checked the bios settings and Ctrl and Fn swapping was turned off which was unexpected. I tried turning it on and now the Fn key works with the action keys but I need to use the Control key to adjust the keyboard brightness. The Ctrl key no longer works as the control key (as expected)

FnLock also seems backwards. With Fn/Ctrl swap on, when the FnLock light is not lit the F1-F12 keys work as actions. With the FnLock light lit they work as regular F1-F12 keys

It looks like the Control and Fn operation is backwards.

Is that correct?

This was like this right out of the box and I've applied all updates but the issue still exists

I reset the bios so Fn and Ctrl were no longer switched and was back to needing to press Ctrl to use any of the action keys

However, if I hit Fn+Esc to enable function lock (with the light on) I can now use the action keys with the Fn button.

That still seems backwards though. I'd expect FnLock "on" to behave like the Fn button is permanently held down.

Is that how it's supposed to work? The fn+ctrl thing is not how it was on the T60

Hi, I have the same model. There is an additional option in the Lenovo Vantage app under device settings, you could check that out.
