T14 Model 20S0002FUS - BIOS Update issues - N2XET27W (1.17)

2021-03-09, 16:16 PM

I've noticed an issue with the updated BIOS 1.17.  The CPU fan is running non-stop. System randomly shows high CPU utilization sometimes 95% or 100%. Lasts 30min on avg.

I have several T14 laptops on BIOS version 1.14. The CPU fan rarely comes on. Maybe once or twice per day. The system never hangs or shows high CPU utilization. I've built 6 units identical with software and configurations.

3 on the older BIOS run without the high CPU utilization and no system hangs

3 on the newer BIOS which all have high CPU utilization and system hangs.

I also have one system that was on BIOS version 1.14 that upgraded today 3-9-21. Once the system rebooted and the BIOS update was completed the CPU fan runs non-stop. And high CPU utilization.

When will the next BIOS version be released? Hopefully 1.1X or whatever that may be fixes the issues??

Hello pcteklink!

Greetings

Since it happens on multiple devices, you can downgrade it back to Version 1.16 here: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n2xuj08w.exe

But, you need to disable the Secure Rollback Prevention in BIOS first and you can refer to the photo below. For you to boot to BIOS, follow this: https://support.lenovo.com/ph/en/solutions/ht500222-recommended-ways-to-enter-bios-boot-menu-thinkpad-thinkcentre-thinkstation

You can reach out to the right folks regarding the recent update on our support site by providing feedback or comment: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en.There is a feedback button on the bottom right side.

Regards

Hi @Jwes_Lenovo,

Could you please suggest why you are describing the rollback operation if it's impossible according to the manual of v.1.17?

Same as here: https://forums.lenovo.com/topic/findpost/1300/5068233/5269279

Thanks

Hello,

I'm unable to use the BIOS provided in the URL in this thread. See the attachments. There's also a note in the readme that the BIOS cannot be rolled back.

Read me:  https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n2xuj09w.txt

Secure Rollback Prevention - disabled

As there are a different variant that may offer this option in the BIOS under security, There is however some release version like 1.17 that have a special mention of non-availability of this feature, For such condition, it may be best to have technical support check further on this and have the next steps as covered by the warranty.

There's a new release of the BIOS which seems to have resolved most of the high CPU and hang issues.
