T14s no sound after sleep when using S3 sleep mode

2020-09-04, 20:00 PM

Since the Windows modern sleep (S0) crashes the PC or simply does not let me wake it up when waking up after a longer period of sleep (such as overnight) I had to change the sleep mode in the BIOS to Linux (S3) The consequence however is that there is no more audio after resuming from sleep.

When I look in device manager I notice that the AMD Audio CoProcessor has the following problem AFTER resuming from S3 sleep:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (code 31)

Object name already exists.

happens with driver version 2.89.0.54 and 2.89.0.59

I also notice in the system log whenever I click on the speaker volume setting (to check if sound works) that a 10016 warning is generated.

My choice right now is: use S3 sleep to avoid crashes upon waking up the PC but having no sound until reboot or using S0 sleep resulting in crashes or not being able to wake the PC but having sound after sleep if I only let it sleep for a short period like 1 hour or so...

T14s no sound after sleep when using S3 sleep mode

You re-installed Windows 10 after changing sleep mode in the BIOS, correct?
USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

T14s no sound after sleep when using S3 sleep mode

Yes, I have tested this with clean installs after changing the sleep mode in the BIOS. Also tested without reinstalling Windows; same issue. After so many years of Windows development this is rather unbelievable...

How about this?

There is also a preview of some Windows 10 2004 fixes available.

It's off by default in the T14s (AMD Ryzen)

I'm on Enterprise 1909 so the patch you refer to is not applicable. 2004 is a work in progress I'm afraid...

T14s no sound after sleep when using S3 sleep mode

2020-10-12, 11:51 AM
Did you find a solution? I have the same problem with the audio not working after waking up from S3 sleep. Fortunately, my laptop (T14s, AMD Ryzen 7) wakes up from S0 sleep, but I hate the battery drain and I don't need any of the modern standby features... Thanks!

Nope... not yet. Using S0 isn't a solution either; windows crashes intermittently during S0 sleep or I'm simply not able to wake up my T14s. I'm completely fed up with it.

I have the same issue with no sound. When reverting to the Microsoft driver (via devicemanager change devicedrive to "HD audio device"  instead of one of the realtek drivers) every works again. FIX this!

Hmmm... it sort of solves the problem: if you select the "High Definition Audio Device" driver instead of the "Realtek High Definition Audio" driver then after resuming from sleep the sound continues indeed to function but then when you look in device manager/system devices the "AMD Audio CoProcessor" no longer functions correctly as Windows can no longer load the drivers required for the AMD CoProcessor.

Re:T14s no sound after sleep when using S3 sleep mode

It seems that some of the problems occur when waking up from hibernation. Hibernation is automatically triggered after S0 sleep, whenever the set time is reached or when a certain amount of energy is drained from the battery in S0.

I found the following error in Event Viewer: "Session "ReadyBoot" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188".

A suggested fix is to increase the ReadyBoot file size: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/d74859fb-f1c1-434f-b084-fd26da581c6e/session-quotreadybootquot-stopped-due-to-the-following-error-0xc0000188?forum=w7itprogeneral

I'll test tonight and see if at least S0 will work correctly. Still looking for a proper fix to the audio driver problem when waking up from S3 sleep.
