Re: Brightness cannot be changed after standby/resume-cycles

It only happens occasionally for me but closing the screen and opening it again fixes it.

This happens to my Lenovo X200 tablet as well. I also set the screen to turn off when i close the lid, and as others have posted, opening/closing the lid fixes the problem temporarily. Why is this problem still here after over a year?

Hi All,

According to your feedback, it seems the issue happened to different ThinkPads, and i'm trying to understand more about the situation. Can you help me with that?

Can you elaborate a little bit more about how and when the issue occured? As far as i know, it happened after resumed from standby/hibernate. Did it happen everytime or occasionally? Does anyone have different situation where it happened in other occasion? If yes, what were you doing?

The above are about how it happened. Now i need more description of how you temporarily got it fixed. Did you close and open the lid without putting the system into sleep/hibernate, which means the screen was just merely turned off and on again?

Also, the machine information is very important, and i hope you could share with us. :)

  • Machine Type (e.g. 7660-14A)
  • OS (e.g. Win 7 Home Premium, 32bit)
  • Power Management version
  • Bios version
  • Hotkey version
  • Chipset driver
  • Graphic card driver

Thank you.

Regards,
Cleo

P.S. izmi, you mentioned that an update back in June has solved your issue. May i know what update is that about as well as its version?

I have the same issue.  In addition I can't get my newest T500 to go even close to as dim as my previous one did.

Dear Cleo,

I had the problem with my T400 (2767AG8) under Vista 32 and some Bios update and Hotkey driver update resolved the issue - I've never bothered to pin it down.

I use now Win 7 Ultimate x64 (fully up to date) and it works. Config info: with the newest BIOS version (3.16), System Interface Driver 1.01, On Screen Display  6.03, Power Manager 3.20, Power Management Driver 1.60.0.4, Switchable Graphics Driver 8.641.1.1-090824a-089811C, chipset driver: unknown (I downloaded it from Intel in Dec 2009).

Re: Brightness cannot be changed after standby/resume-cycles

Hi Cleo,

This is happening to me too, but only occasionally, after several hibernate/resume cycles (I have no idea how many, unfortunately).  It's only happened to me 2 or 3 times in the couple of months I've had my T510.  A reboot resolves it.  Here are my details, as requested:

  • Machine Type: 4313CTO
  • OS: Win 7 Pro, 64-bit.  This is the original OS installation from the factory (I have neither clean-installed, nor re-imaged)
  • Power Management version: 3.20
  • Bios version: 6MET52WW(1.15)
  • Hotkey version: 3.02.0001 (I see 3.09.0000 is now out, but I haven't updated yet)
  • Chipset driver: 9.1.1.1023
  • Graphic card driver: 8.15.10.2025

Thanks!

2516CTO
Win7 Ultimate 32 (Untouched except for disabling of services, startup programs and registry editing.)

Power Manager 3.20

BIOS 1.18 Embedded 1.07

Hotkey 3.09.0000

Chipset 9.1.1.1023

Graphics 8.16.11.8825 (Please update NVIDIA drivers for stability please... It would be nice to have an option to get modern drivers.)

This seems to be a very, very rare problem for me now but it still occurs once in a blue moon. Closing the lid s othe LCD powers off and opening it fixes this problem.

Also, sometimes FN-F3 does not turn the display off (It turns back on shortly or ignores me completely.) Restart solves this.

Same problem for me too.

I have a thinkpad x61t. I used to use Windows 7, but the tablet input had so many problems I had to come back to use Vista.

  • Machine Type (7764-CTO)
  • OS (Vista ultimate, 32bit)
  • Power Management driver version 1.60.0.4
  • Power Management software version 3.20
  • Bios version 1.24
  • Hotkey version 3.02.0001
  • On screen display 6.02.01
  • System interface driver 1.01.0907
  • Chipset driver 9.1.1.1023
  • Graphic card driver 7.15.10.1576

Everything (windows and lenovo drivers) is up to date as of 5/3/2010.

x61t, multitouch/multiview, bluetooth, intel4965 wireless, intel ssd, 3gb ram

As someone already mentioned, after closing the lid and opening it brings back the brightness controls.

My tablet is set to do nothing (automatically turns off lcd) when closing the lid.

i can give you all the h/w info but there is no pattern there...i've seen it do this with several types of thinkpads. with and w/o power manager, hotkey, etc..mine goes very dim, probably 0(OSD doesnt work for brightness at this point) when i close the lid..it seems it has to be longer than 5 minutes. it doesnt go to stanby and i have the lid closing option set to do nothing..as i said, this is on several different types and drivers and h/w thinkpads..these are mostly the t60 and r series

I have this exact same problem and found this thread searching for a solution. It happens seemingly at random, the brightness gets stuck after resume from sleep and closing and opening the screen brings back the adjustment.

My machine type is 2764-CTO running Vista Business x64. I have the latest Power Management, Hotkey, Chipset driver versions. BIOS is 3.16 which is the latest if I remember correctly. None of the latest updates/drivers have fixed the issue for me :(
