T400 Integrated Camera

2008-10-02, 2:46 AM

Hello:

Is it just me, or was the built in camera a waste of valuable space on my screen.  The tint is yellow and there are no controls to change this.  It's yellow whether I am in good light or not.

T400 Integrated Camera

2008-10-02, 4:51 AM
Maybe I shouldn't have been so sarcastic.  I have purchased a new T400 Lenova Laptop.  I like it a lot, however, the integrated camera picture is yellow.  I have tried it from several different lighting situations including outside bright light and it still show a yellow picture. Is there something wrong, or is this the way the camera is supposed to look?

If that was the case - I would think they would have said, this is the cheap camera do you want to upgrade.  They didn't have a problem with upgrading the rest of everything to the tune of $2,900.

Basically, the auto white balance does not work... you can manually adjust the white balance, but this is certainly a driver problem.  I hope that Lenovo gets to fixing this issue immediately!

Also, I hope that Lenovo adds compatibility with windows vista for the webcam.  It is pretty silly that windows movie maker cannot detect this USB? camera!  I had to download some amateurish program just to be able to use it.  Don't tell me its a vista problem Lenovo... what OS did you think was going to be running on your computer?  Just make the hardware compatible!

We need to make lots of noise and maybe Lenovo will release fix for Yellow images and Vista incompatibility. It is not IBM anymore unfortunately so things will not get done as rapidly as before.

After lots of consideration and research, I've also just bought a new T400 with 2.5GHz with all bells and whistles.. It pains me to look like Shrek whenever I use skype. One way I solved it was by cupping my hand over the top part of the frame sheltering the webcam from the lightsource on top. It takes 1 - 2 seconds for the machine to correct the colour balance. However, I hate this because sometimes it does jump back to the green cast.. (it does get better after a few times of this correction, some sort of AI memory playing? ) anyway, I do find this crap and hope that Lenovo can solve this quickly with a new driver soon!

It is driving me nuts.. but I hope this helps you guys.. I'm using XP SP3 by the way..

Hello,

have you already tried this method mentioned here. Especially the switch to ATI card?

I'm also in this same situation.  It bothers me that the integrated camera is such a neglected component on this laptop.  The best I could do was to manually take care of controlling the color balance in the advanced camera options of skype, but this is not something I want to do forever.

Any fix on this would be nice.  Also, of all prepackaged software not to include, why not any camera software?

Any response from Lenovo, even if its just an acknowledgement of the problem, would be a good response.
