I still have this problem!
I already updated the BIOS to version 2.12 (13.03.2009) already before from 2.02 >> 2.07 but there is no change in that.
Second bigger bug is: when I get it back from sleep mode (suspend to ram) an the LED was still on in sleep, all my USB Port are not working anymore! You can connect/disconnect any device like USB-mouse/harddrive/mem-stick.
Power is there but none of them appear in the system. Even Xp-shutdown on normal way via Startmenu does not work.
After shutdown with hard-reset (5-sec powerbutton) everything is back.
Lenovo Suport told me to update BIOS (already did it!) and then restore the whole system > and lose all my programm-keys!
Any Idea where to look for?
I've also had this problem (USB going to sleep) with a T400 I received a couple of weeks ago. I tried disabling the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." setting in the USB Root Hub Properties via Device Manager, but it didn't help at all. I've also found the DVD drive will also go to sleep and is unable to be woken, without rebooting.
I rang Lenovo support about the problem and an IBM tech called me back about it, but he wouldn't acknowledge it as a known problem, and said that all he could suggest was to update to the latest BIOS (2.12) - which I have already done. He said in that case he couldn't help me, and that it will probably be fixed eventually. I asked if there was some way that I could ensure that this problem has been logged as something that needs to be fixed. He said that he would escalate the problem to engineering, but considering he wasn't interested in getting any further details from me - such as operating system, which ports, etc, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a fix.
I don't think this will be fixed anytime soon, if at all. It is a shame because there seem to be quite a few Customer Serivce people at a senior level who are really trying hard to fix the support problems with IBM/Lenovo but unfortunately those answering the phone are letting them down badly. It might be a good time for a GFC induced clean out of unhelpful customer service staff - because they're killing the Lenovo business.
