T400 beeps **ANNOYINGLY** every time you open the laptop lid

2009-12-26, 2:06 AM

Has anyone else experienced a beep when you flip open your laptop? I notice that if you mute, then it doesn't happen. If you use audio or have any volume on, it makes a loud annoying beep. Has anybody been able to turn it off?

Here is how I tried solving the problem so far.

1. I right-click desktop --> personalize --> sounds becomes "no sounds"

2. I went to "Device Manager" --> sound, video, and game controller --> high definition audio device

- i disabled and later re-enabled this. disabling it will basically disable all sound, which nobody wants.

3. Reading around some more, I did view-->show hidden devices, then went nonplug and play drivers --> beep, and disabled beep. this doesn't solve the problem.

My computer is also very new -- I got it about 1.5 months ago. Reading around, how do you access "BIOS?" I went into Windows 7 search, and nothing popped up. Maybe it might be part of the solution?

Thanks!

Hello

This is easily fixable by going into the Power Manager (click the green battery icon on the taskbar)

Now click "Advanced" on the top right corner.

After that click "Global Power Settings"

Untick "beep when power state changes", so that means you laptop won't make a sound when you close lid or open lid. it would beep when you unplug the charger.

Merry Xmas

You can access the BIOS by pressing the blue Thinkvantage button when you first turn on your laptop. It's far easier to go into the powermanager  as suggested above.

Hi! Thanks for replying to my message!

Unfortunately, I cannot access Power Manager on my taskbar. I clicked the green icon and right clicked and all that comes up is "Power Options" for Windows 7, so I do not see "Advanced," and cannot access "Global Power Settings." Is there any alternative way to access this?

If you go into the control pannel, there should be an option for "Lenovo's Power Controls", you can acess the powermanager in there.

if not you could download thinkvantage update from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html and it should give you the option to download and install it. NOTE: you might already have this installed.

Hi all!

I fixed the problem by going into BIOS, starting the computer and changing it in alternative setup. There is no more beep! Thanks to both of you -- I really appreciate all your help.

Take care!
