T400 screen blinks when AC power is connected or disconnected

2010-02-19, 13:51 PM

Hi guys!

I have recently bought a T400. At the moment, it is running on Windows XP, Service Pack 3.

After installation of Windows XP, I have installed all the relevant drivers and no yellow question marks appear in the Device Manager panel. However, during the process of installing these drivers, now whenever I plug in our take out the AC Power Plug, the screen goes blank for about a second and then comes back.

This problem was NOT there immediately after installing Windows XP and Service Pack 3, i.e. before installing the drivers. I think that it is one particular driver which may have caused this.

Could anyone help me with this? I have already tried re-installing the Graphic Driver.

I'm bumping because I'm getting the same issue now.  It started about three days ago, but I haven't done any updates recently.  Only change is that I recently turned on the switchable graphics in BIOS.  Anyone else?

My T400s  (running Win 7 Professional x64) is doing this also.   I don't recall when this started since I normally run on AC and usually close the lid before unplugging, but I don't think it always behaved this way.

Having the same problem. Could it be the power supply? I was using a 120w Kensington till the tip broke and the docking station is a 90w. I have also taken the battery out and just ran the power supply and have the same problem.

Your video card is shifting refresh rates when you change power sources.

Check your power manager and video card settings - I'll bet you that on battery you're set for 50Hz and AC you're set for 60Hz.

T400 - 2.53Ghz CoreDuo - 4GB Ram - 200GB 7.2kRPM Encrypted HDD - LED Backlit Screen, Web Cam.

This helped me too

Re: T400 screen blinks when AC power is connected or disconnected

Thank you very much, binaryspiral.

This is what I did.

Desktop>Right Click>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Monitor. Here, under Monitor settings, I set the Screen Refresh Rate to 50 Hertz. After applying these settings, the blinking problem gets fixed.

Is there anyway I can keep both settings at 60 Hz instead? There must be another setting which isn't matching.

Where is that other setting? The only other options I can see is the "Intel(R) GMA Driver for Mobile" option in the Control Panel, and the ThinkVantage Power Monitor.

However, playing with these options didn't let me keep both at 60 Hz without getting the blinking issue.

Any help would be appreciated, my friend.

Re: T400 screen blinks when AC power is connected or disconnected

Hi

I have also this problem with the blinking...but only on the extra screen I use with my Thinkpad 410S.

Somtimes it blinks every 10 sec and somtimes onle every hour...and nobody can tell me what is happering...it is not the screen.

I also have the problem where the screen is fading in and out but only on the laptop.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem
