Re: T400s No Sound

Well my 1 day old t400s has this problem, and im pretty sure it just came like that.  I called Tech support today, they wanted to send it to repair....a 1 day old laptop? No thanks. I told them i did not feel comfortable sending a 1 day old laptop for repair so i asked about either returning it and geting a new one or getting my money back. They told me to call Sales tomorrow (since its closed now) and talk to them and give them my support ticket number in case they ask.

Anyone had luck returning the laptops?...very dissapointed. And to think I almost did not buy this laptop because i was afraid this would happen (...or random shutdowns that seem to be another problem). Should have gone with my gut.....now I just hope they dont give me a hard time returning it.

Is Lenovo aware of this problem?  Can anyone from Lenovo please say if there is any hope on this?

It took a month for my T400s to arrive, then the speakers stopped working after one day, like everyone else here.

I really don't want to ship it back and wait two more weeks for it, just to have it happen again like some other people posting here.

This has got to be a BIOS problem, not "we will replace your speakers" problem, right?

Re: Speakers don't work in Lenovo T400s with Vista 64 bit (headphones work, last version of BIOS)

2009-11-17, 21:17 PM

It's not only a problem Vista 64-bit users.

Users of Windows 7, Windows XP, Ubuntu, and more are all having this same problem on the T400s.

The speakers work for the first day or two, then at the first OS update, they stop working.

The drivers are all fine, the headphone jack works, microphone works, but the speakers do not work.

Hopefully someone from Lenovo will figure it out soon, instead of telling all of us to mail our laptops back to them, only to have the speakers replaced, and have it happen again (as many are also reporting).

Re: T400s No Sound

The forum moderator moved this thread into the wrong subject.

It has nothing to do with Windows 7.  It's a T400s BIOS or hardware problem, happening for users of XP, Vista, 7, and all forms of Linux.

It has nothing to do with the O.S. at all.  This discussion should be continued in http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/ as a T400s issue.

The forum moderator mistakenly moved the discussion about the T400s speakers into the Windows 7 discussion for some reason!

To be clear: it has nothing to do with the O.S.   Users of the T400s in all kinds of operating systems (XP, Vista, 7, and all forms of Linux) are all having this same problem.

Hopefully the discussion will be moved back here to http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/bd-p/T400_series_ThinkPads - where it started.  Not sure how it got moved to Windows 7 area.

Moderator note: subject line adjusted.

The helpful Levono service technican replaced my speaker today on-site.

I had a look at them and the membranes where literally molten away. Both of them!

I really hope this happens not again

Ha! Mine speakers were the same :) So it seems to be the same problem - may be it is a BIOS issue, but I don't think that a BIOS upgrade will fix the melted membranes.

BIOS upgrade to version 1.11 did not help. :(

Probably need to contact the service center. :smileysad:
