T400s & Bluetooth

2011-12-04, 9:18 AM

My T400s (2808) runs Windows 7. I recently tried to update the driver for ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate (to 6.2.1.3100 from the Lenovo Support site) but the update fails. Strangely, I now realise that my current Driver Version is a higher number (6.3.5.430, from Broadcom) but older date than the one I was trying to update to.

Anyway, now whenever I start my laptop there is a BTTray.exe system error (The program won't start because btwhidcs.DLL is missing...). I have read of a problem where if you uninstall some bluetooth drivers on Lenovos then the hard drive can be wiped.

Please can somebody advise me of a safe solution?

Thanks

Bruce

When you first swith-on the bluetooth, maybe window 7 have used it's own bluetooth drivers (From broadcom). lenovo normally have 'speciialized' drivers from OEM makers like intel/broadcom/graphics maker etc and may not be compatible with non-lenovo/oem made drivers.

Hence I suggest that you go into the device drivers and delete off the drivers, forcing window 7 to install the most basic bluetooth drivers. Then run system update and install the lenovo version over it.
