Re: Another random shutdown... ;-(

I've been on the road the past couple of weeks with my T400s; since removing the Lenovo Power Management Software, and Lenovo Access Connections software I've had no unexpected shutdowns.

As an aside; I also have the Gobi1000 CDMA/GSM modem - the thing is a beaut; the GSM modem is not locked to the US Carrier (Verizon) so I bought a Vodafone GSM Card in the UK and enjoyed the internet for 50 pence/day.

Another 6 days in and still no shutdown... and still no new motherboard from Lenovo. I'm out of the office today so I'll call them tomorrow and see why it still not in stock yet...

Hi there,

I just came across this thread and I am looking for the solution of the T400s shutdown problem as well. I have 2 brand new T400s (2808-C5U with SSD and WWAN) here and both have the 1.07 firmware while one is running Vista 32-bit and XP 32-bit SP3 (Lenovo XP Recovery disk P/N 45m5926) with another. One thing I would like to share with you guys is that the machine with XP has been running totally fine (docked or undocked) ever since we received it 2 weeks ago. The Vista machine is another story however, it suddenly started shutting down randomly last week and by shutdown, it's not the normal power down by windows; it's kinda like a sudden loss of power. If there is anything I could help to identify the cause, please feel free to ask.

Vista's Power manager version:3.01a

XP's Power manager version: 1.60

Thanks

Albert

Oh, that's bad news ;-( I was really hoping BIOS v1.07 contained the shutdown fix... ;-(

I would REALLY like to hear from a Lenovo Rep. on this! Since i'm in Australia, getting support on a machine bought in the US isn't exactly easy for me, so I would really like to know if this is software or hardware related!

Given this thread is now 11 pages long, I think it deserves some attention!

I agree, personally it is putting my purchases on hold. If this was an isolated incident I guess i could say "oh well only a couple of people are experiencing it" but an 11 page thread on this makes me think twice about purchasing.

Guys, i just had my motherboard replaced and i think the engineer might have damaged by palm rest - can you take a look at the attached photo i took and see if that's normal?

I looked on the website at the unit and don't see this 'bump' - i think he might have screwed through the rest.

At a guess, i'd say he's used the wrong length screw for that hole, and it's pushed through the plastic when he's screwed it down. I'm kind of surprised he would leave it like that, did he think you wouldn't notice!? ;-(

I wonder if he knew that he did it at all....

One of the first things he said when i handed over my 400s to him was, "wow i haven't seen on of these yet" - made me feel good about getting the board changed out.

On a side note, an 'engineer' will be out to replace my palm rest tomorrow ;-)
