Re: T400s random shutdowns

2009-10-21, 1:04 AM

Also, I had Power Manager 2.43 installed, I see 3.05 is available on the Windows 7 driver page, so i've upgraded to 3.05.

I've gone against my rule and made more than one change at once (ie BIOS update and Power Manager), oh well. ;-)

Re: T400s random shutdowns

I'm glad to find that I'm not alone in the random shutdowns. My new T400s with Vista64 started to do this almost as soon as I got it. I called Lenovo and they had me take it to a local repair facility who updated some general software (but not BIOS as far as I know) but couldn't find any problem.

I have experienced it when my computer is idle, but in the last two days it has happened twice to me while I've been doing some light work: internet browsing or MS Office stuff.

I'll try the things that you guys have pointed out seem to stop the problem. It's incredibly annoying! I've never had anything like this with my previous IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads.

A bug in Power Manager I can understand, but having to disable VT in the BIOS is unacceptable for me. I need the VT and VT-d instruction sets for my work (virtual machines).

I noticed BIOS v1.09 is out, however I don't see any "random shutdown" bug fixes in the change log. I've upgraded and will let you guys know if I get another shutdown.

Hi All,

Just an update. Since upgrading the BIOS to 1.09 and the Power Manager to 3.05, i'm yet to get a random shutdown. *touches wood*

Can anyone confirm a shutdown with BIOS 1.09 and/or PM 3.05?

-Steve

brickinwall, so you confirm you have had a shutdown with BIOS 1.09?

What version of Power Manager are you running?

Thanks,

Steve

I'll add another machine to the T-400s random shut-down list.

Mine is a 2815CTO running Vista Business 64, SP-1.  The shutdowns, as with others reported, are instantaneous.

In every case, the battery is installed.  In 90% of the cases, an AC adapter is connected.

No apparent pattern that I can discern.  It happens from one to three times per day.

Thanks,

ThinkPad Power Manager 3.05

ThinkVantage Fingerpringt Software (UPEK Inc,) 5.9.2.5859

and manually installed

I suggest the folks who have Lenovo Power Management installed remove it.  Since I did - no unexpected shutdowns.

From my earlier post:

  • Remove the Lenovo Power Management application
  • I do have "Thinkpad Power Management Driver v1.53" installed
  •

    Does this help?

    Chris.
