Re: T400s random shutdowns

Hi, everyone, I have some important notes that you may be interested in.

1)   For how to look up the MB part number w/o screw driver:   Just look up your warranty online at lenovo website, then click on " View parts lookup results for this system" . You will be able to see all the part number in your system. The item marked as "SHI-1 SP94 PL:SYSTEM PLANAR" should be your MB!! My part number is 60Y3359 which is sad (wonder why, follow me...)

2)  According to previous postings, the part number begins with 40Y, 43Y will cause random shut down while 60Y, 63Y will not.  BUT I FOUND IT NOT TRUE!

40Y****, 43Y****, 60Y3359   will have the shut down problem because mine has experienced the random shut down problem!!!  Although not that serious as others. Mine will shut down once every 4-5 days of use. But it DID HAPPEN as described. Actually 43Y9976 (60Y3359) are the same...

The latest MB part number should be 60Y5693 (60Y3402) .I found a website that sells lenovo parts "http://www.figtech.net/systemboards.html"  . You will see 2 different kinds of T400s SBO

This explains well many previous posting that if you change to 60Y5693, you are fine while a posting said his computer pulled out a 60Y*** MB when trying to change the MB.

3) So what is next... make sure you change to version higher than 60Y3402. 63Y**** is the best:)

4) My warranty saids "Description:This product has a one year limited warranty and is entitled to EZServ/Depot service. Customers may call their local service center for more information. Dealers may provide carry-in repair for this product."   What does it mean? May I just take it to local service center for replacement? I don't wanna sb change it without my starring.

I can confirm this, because my system had random shutdowns.  As described above, I called for a mobo replacement and they pulled a 60Y series board from my machine...

Which is the part number that you have after replacement?

60Y3359 or 60Y5693?

Actually the 60Y3359 with the latest bios will meet this problem rarely, around once every 3 weeks. As I indicated, it will happen, at the time you mostly don't expect.

I suppose it would be just OK if we often shut down the computer instead of standby.

Re: T400s random shutdowns

Having been a ThinkPad user nearly since their inception, I am sad to say I will never again be purchasing another Lenovo product. I am really dissapointed with the service. The benefit of the doubt was given, and in return for being a loyal and supportive customer, I have been given a laptop that was damaged by the technician who serviced it.

While I may not be responsible for purchasing 6000 ThinkPads, not that I believe that other guy was, I do in fact run a web forum with over 20,000 members and nearly 1.5 million posts, www.orlandoforums.com. We have had many thread discussions there in regards to computers and laptops, and quite often I have spoken of the ThinkPad line in high regards... However, being treated the way I have, I will be posting a full review there of my experience with the new Lenovo line of ThinkPads. And being the admin of that site, people pay close attention to my posts... I will be letting all of my members know, Lenovo is not a company you want to do business with.

For those who question the validity of this, I welcome you to visit my forum, and search on my name and the keyword ThinkPad*. (Be sure to include the * in order to return the most results.) You will be returned results, and after I post about my experience with Lenovo, at least one of those results will point to a very negative review.

I no longer trust this company.

Re: T400s random shutdowns

I paid over a month ago to have my warranty upgraded to 2 years onsite so that I could get the MB fix, but wouldnt have to send my T400s in

As of today that still hasnt happened even with countless phone calls and emails to Lenovo reps

I see nothing but incompetence when I need to deal with a simple thing like paying to upgrade my warranty.

Plus this POS shuts down on me at least once a day,  before it would only do it when I wasnt working on it.    Now it does it when I am working on it

Yeah, same thing happened to me.  I opened several cases, and each time I got "Were so sorry for the inconvenience... yada yada yada."  Basically it's a paperwork issue.  My advice is to give up.  My warranty finally showed up online one day, about 6 weeks after I paid for it.

From the other posts in this thread, I'd eval the dude before you let him touch your box.  May in fact be better to send it in to the depot, and not some local handyman that has a service agreement with Lenonvo, Maytag, Samsung, Kenmore, and uses the same pocket knife on all.
