Re: T400s random shutdowns

2010-03-13, 20:11 PM

I am so sad to say that my T400s 2801-AQU which has a system board of 60Y5693 has suffered 2 sudden shutdowns in the past 2 weeks.

And I feel even worse that I have brought this laptop back to China where it is almost impossible for me to get a warranty.

I love thinkpads so much, from T40s, but now what should I do, dear ?

Hi pingyizhi, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

You're in luck. The 2801-AQU is eligible for International Warranty Service, including China. Enter 2801 and call the number listed here:

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Hi bananaman, I appreciate you help very much but unfortunately I checked the warranty and found it not international.

Both my two shutdowns happened after I upgraded my BIOS from 1.02 to 1.12 and I lost a word document being typed each time. This could be worse.

I think for this situation, Lenovo should take its responsibilty for dispointing its loyal customs and run a global free warranty.

WHAT!!!!
Your 60Y5693 suffered from random shutdown? Most person here got a replacement to 60Y5693 w/o no problem.
Is your original one 5693? How did you check this number? When did you buy this T400s?

Hi pingyizhi!

Something is odd here. Your system definitely shows as International Warranty Service (IWS)-eligible in China on the page I linked to. Where are you getting the information that it isn't? I've had warranty service performed in China on an (X61) system I bought in the US... no issues (in fact it was great service).

Re: T400s random shutdowns

Hi all

I am a very recent owner (less than a week) of the T410, experiencing frequent 'random shutdowns', peaking at almost 10 times in the hour. Tried almost everything, from reverting to factory settings, removing fingerprint recognition, uninstalling Lenovo's power management, to flashing the bios to the updated 1.12. Frustration aside, I would appreciate any advice.

According to my online warranty information at Lenovo's website, under "Parts lookup", my MB (FRU PLANAR CARD - HYBRID, IAMT=YES, TPM=) is of  Mfg part# "60Y5142" and FRU part# "60Y5716".

Should I replace the MB as Mark_Lenovo suggested in his "official solution" post ?

With regards to reports of 60Y level boards being bad...  Please keep in mind that there are two sets of part numbers - manufacturing part numbers which every component has, and FRU or service part numbers.  These are NOT interchangable numbers.

It is possible that some boards with 60Y manufacturing numbers could be affected, but I seriously doubt the 60Y FRU boards would exhibit this symptom.

Basically I am a little concerned with the possibility of 'sub-standard' repair works, and if the MB replacement does not guarantee a near 100% fix to my problems, I am thinking of just writing off this piece of equipment as a bad purchase. :smileysad:

I checked it from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-72793.html.

This is my original T400s and it was bought from shop.microsfot.com at around 1.20.2010.

Incrediable! When I checked it this morning it said there no IWS, but when I tried again just now, it's OK.

Thank you!

it is incredible, at least from my point of view, that so many people pay their good money so as to have a top quality laptop - and they expect no less than perfect - only to see themselves dealing with petty problems that could be avoided if there was more responsibility. i found it ridiculous to pay all these money and obtain a laptop that is problematic...

I just wanted to chime in that I'm having random shutdown problems, too.   I ignored it for a few months but now it's getting unbearable and I'll be calling Lenovo tomorrow.   T400s.   Warranty parts list includes this:

60Y3403     S1 SP96:SYSTEM PLANAR

I'm not sure what that means.  It's says it's not serviceable, but I assume that's the motherboard?
