I am looking to buy a refurbished 400s from the Lenovo outlet.  Is there anyway to tell ahead of time if this machine will have the shutdown issue?  These are the listed specs:

My opinion only but a "refurbished" unit should have had the mobo checked no?

I just bought a T400s from the Microsoft Store, my chances are much higher of having the problem board.

"Should have" - yeah.

When I called the tech support they still didn't know anything about this problem.

My T400s was picked up on 23/06 and it's still not returned, but I really hope the problem has been solved when it's back.

Do you have the 43Y mobo?  I just got mine Monday and it has the problem board.  I'm not concerned just yet as from reading ALL of the previous posts (lots of time on the road to kill) it's a subset of the 43Y mobo's.

I must admit I did not see this thread untill I had ordered the T400s, we shall see.

BTW, why are you sending it back?

I opened it up, I do have the problem board. I been leaving it on for 1-2 days, no problems so far...

I want to send it back cause i don't want random shutdowns down the road and having to send a new $$$ laptop to be teared apart.

How do you know its only a subset?

I hear you about not wanting a new laptop (even at a discount) tore into.  The subset was just from reading what Mark_Lenovo had said about the problem.  If I recall he said if you have the problem, R&R the mobo, if not it "will not" develop.

To confirm this I called Lenovo tech support, case# 11SVCTD just to ask and was met with sarcasm and condescension from someone in Atlanta, good job guys.

Madamd did you get any media with your shipment?

Re: T400s random shutdowns

Just got service for my T400s, they have replaced me the board with 63Y.

I am using windows 7 64bit home premium 1.15 bios, all most updated drivers

And I have perform RAM check, Harddisk check personally, no problems on the reports.

But the sudden shutdown problem still exist. It occur about 3 times daily.

So, what can I do =___=,

This deflect is really unacceptable, it there any solution?

No, it did not come with any media.

Based on what seasonsonic said, it sealed the return for me. I m going to get the T410s instead.

This is very disappointing because I thought i got a good deal for the T400s. but paying $900 for a serious laptop to do serious work with random shutdown is unacceptable.
