T400s won't start after keyboard cleaning

2012-03-11, 11:10 AM

Hello. I cleaned by T400s keyboard today after some juice reached the keys and the laptop doesn't seem to start anymore. I removed the battery and the power cord, tried the 10 times power button press trick, still no result.

Does resetting the CMOS resolve the problem?

At the first glance, it seems the laptop receives power because the fingerprint reader LED is turned on, but it turns off as soon as I disconnect the charger.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

that means most likely your keyboard died and needs a replacement, which is pretty cheap from ebay.

It sounds like the juice got down beyond the keyboard and shorted something out

unplug and pull battery.  Clear CMOS.  Let sit 30 min.  Put it battery back, plug it in, and see what happens.  If that doesn't work, then I think there is a real problem.

Unfortunately, I can't pull out the keyboard to clear the CMOS. It seems to be stuck although I removed the screw on the back.

remove the cmos and plug in the ac adapter and see whether it starts. If it was a keyboard issue, it is relatively easy to solve, but if something got onto the motherboard, then you are looking at a large repair bill.

OK guys, I cleared the CMOS, the laptop booted up fine, it loaded Windows, everything went very smooth. But after shutdown, the laptop doesn't seem to start anymore, I guess a CMOS clear would do the job. What do you recommend?

Did you see anything spilled on the laptop motherboard? when you say doesn't work, do you mean the power button on the keyboard still refuse to respond, or the remove cmos trick doesn't work?

I can't see anything spilled on the motherboard. The power button refuses to work, but on the other hand, every CMOS reset turns on the laptop just fine.
